My mother and I were accompanied by a female reporter from The Jacksonville Journal to send back stories of my participation. We were given several tours of sights in the city, and a bus trip to Mt. Vernon, returning by a steamer on the Potomac River. One day went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis.
Toured Smithsonian, the F.B.I. Buiding, monuments, Art Gallery, Arlington Cemetary, the Capitol Building, etc.
We were schedued to meet President Harry Truman (1947), but he had flown to Missouri to be at his ailing mother's bedside.
We saw only a few parts of The White House, since it was being renovated. The President and Mrs.Truman were temporarily in residence at The Blair House nearby.
It was a wonderful week!
sounds like you had a super time!
