When I was a 2LT with 2/60 (Mech), I was the OIC for the brigade EIB testing after I aced an earlier EIB examination. I was amazed at how incompetent some captains and majors were at map reading and adjusting artillary fire. Battalion S-3 flunked the FO station and even though an SFC wanted to give him a pass, I told him he was a no go. He was pissed, but that wasn't my problem.
FSE, you are going to find a lot of stupid people within the officer corps. Some of the best, and worse, are USMA grads. the worst of the worst are USMA grads.
An absolutely outstanding explanation of why the military works.
Boy howdy. I've already run into quite a few. There's web discussion site for cadets and LTs (akin to a LTs' FR), and I practically got banned from it for refusing to self-flagellate over the Abu Ghraib situation. Even after the Nick Berg murder, my views were shouted down with empty keyboard commando threats. I was even called a rascist and a butcherer for being in the Infantry.
I just hope I meet more people like my fellow ROTC classmates in the officer corps, and not more people like those limp-wristed fags on that site...
My ROTC class was training at an old EIB testing site on Ft. Bragg (Area J for those of you who know where it is) and I finished my five points in 50 minutes, the first one done (yes, they were all correct). Our LTC was out there, and he wanted me to give him a crash-course in map-reading and practical land nav. I couldn't believe how little he knew. His excuse was that he was a tanker, not a grunt, but I kept thinking, "What if your GPS had broken down?"
It was kind of scary, honestly...
