It is with great pride that I, RightOnline, and The Lovely Wife (aka "RightOnlinesWife") announce the commissioning of our eldest son (oldest of our seven children), known to fellow FReepers as "Future Snake Eater", as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
F.S.E. was commissioned on Friday afternoon, then received his B.A. degree the following day from NC State University. Combined with his recent marriage to his lovely new bride at the end of February, this has been quite the past few months for the RightOnline household and Future Snake Eater.
He will soon leave for Infantry Officer Training School, then Airborne, then Ranger school......then off to Ft. Lewis, WA, where he will lead a Stryker platoon.
Please join us in congratulating a fine young man who is going to make one hell of an Army officer.
God speed, Chris.
Keep looking further in the thread........you'll see 'em. :)
An absolutely outstanding explanation of why the military works.
Did you at least get a haircut for this occasion, ya hippy?
Like the saying goes, you can't spell "lost" without "LT"!
Boy howdy. I've already run into quite a few. There's web discussion site for cadets and LTs (akin to a LTs' FR), and I practically got banned from it for refusing to self-flagellate over the Abu Ghraib situation. Even after the Nick Berg murder, my views were shouted down with empty keyboard commando threats. I was even called a rascist and a butcherer for being in the Infantry.
I just hope I meet more people like my fellow ROTC classmates in the officer corps, and not more people like those limp-wristed fags on that site...
LOL! I can't speak for my dad, but I got one four days prior to commissioning. I would've done it even closer to the event, but it costs around $14-$15 for a high-&-tight in Raleigh! I'm not making those big officer bucks yet! That's too freakin' expensive!
What a great day! How cool it is that you swore him in and mom got to do the first salute. Some of lifes greatest moments. I'm proud for all of you.

Congratulations to you all!
I'm pretty sure you might have had a little to do with it too!
Congratulations!
Ummm......er........ummm..........no, and I wasn't exactly 35-10, but hey....we guitar players have an image to maintain, don't we???
Speaking as an ROTC alumnus from a past life, 2LT FSE has taken that first step. The next ones will be tougher, but as the poet said, "The finest sword is thrust into the fire a thousand times".
You're in for exciting times, LT. My only admonishment: Listen to us old NCO's. Down the line, you'll be glad you did.
Again, Well Done, to the Whole Family!

Listen to us old NCO's. Down the line, you'll be glad you did.
NCOs are indeed, from all my previous experiences, the "Backbone of the Army." I fully intend to be a tag-along annoyance with my PSG so he can show me the ropes. Maybe he'll be flattered by all the attention...?
My ROTC class was training at an old EIB testing site on Ft. Bragg (Area J for those of you who know where it is) and I finished my five points in 50 minutes, the first one done (yes, they were all correct). Our LTC was out there, and he wanted me to give him a crash-course in map-reading and practical land nav. I couldn't believe how little he knew. His excuse was that he was a tanker, not a grunt, but I kept thinking, "What if your GPS had broken down?"
It was kind of scary, honestly...
And we certainly wouldn't want that, would we? :-)
Thanks, Squantos!
Ranger's Lead The Way!! outstanding!! All the Best to the RightOnline houshold. Tell "Mom's" I said Hi. Tell F.S.E. to "Keep his feet and Knees together" and turn into the wind! Jump school will be a blast!! Promise!! Ranger school will allow him to fine tune the snake eating skills...and fine tune a few others! (Evil grin).
Best of Luck!

You stop that evil grinning right now!!!!
Oh, by the way, your screen name initials really don't fit you at all!!! ;-}
