If an amendment to protect marriage is passed, but allows for gay civil unions, then only the word, "marriage" was protected and not the institution.

I am completely embarrassed to say I live in Massachusetts. The elected legislature has failed miserably in representing the interests of the majority that elected it. The gay minority knows that a referendum vote on this matter would never pass. So with the aid of a complicit judiciary legislating from the bench, the obscenity of same-sex marriage has now been painted with legitimacy.
Since the timid legislature sat quietly by and did absolutely nothing but appease, then vote them ALL out of office in November. This will send a strong and clear message to the legislature that Massachusetts residents will not tolerate gross inaction while an out of control judiciary high-jacks the will of the people.
