NEW YORK -- Last week, Al Franken and Katherine Lanpher basked in the warm spring sun outside the Park Avenue skyscraper that serves as hub to the Air America radio network. Their distinctive laughs bounced off the courtyard wall as the pair relaxed after their 3-hour show.
"The O'Franken Factor" had been good that day. Good guests. Good energy. Things were looking up.
Fifteen minutes later they went upstairs for a staff meeting, where they learned that two of the network's top executives had resigned, the second management shake-up in as many weeks. The good news was that their paychecks, delayed for 24 hours, would now be distributed.
"There was a glitch," Franken acknowledged later. "There was a little gallows humor, then everyone was sort of anxious to get back to work."
Air America's erstwhile 'Minnesota Mafia'Keith BedfordSpecial To The Star TribuneThings are kind of weird at Air America these days. No one disputes that the network, now in its seventh week, has had a rocky lift-off and continues to be buffeted by financial and managerial turbulence. It has lost key stations in two of its top three markets, Chicago and Los Angeles, and this week closed its sales offices there and laid off staff.

Geez, even Phil Donahue had more, and he really had no audience.
Eat your heart out Rush, here they come!
Their listeners will still be only Air Heads!
No, really. Someone has to pay the salaries of these alternative performers, for their habits and their lavish life styles. This is a test for the rich folks in the Malibu compounds.
And, many needy folks are relying on the ultra-wealthy left (especially those who need more tax deductions for their foundations). All those organizations who need a voice are relying on Air America for free air time for their important messages. They are forced to be silent because no one else believes their messages are important and they don't have the money to afford air time. Air America is for them!! Golly, if I were a wealthy liberal Al, I'd fund you! Babs?
I agree. Why are they sitting in a "courtyard" relaxing after a hard day's work? At the very least, they should be sitting in a penthouse garden.
If they think the takeoff was bumpy, wait'll the see the landing! :)

"Some heroes have come in and are keeping us going, and hopefully this will get restructured."
Pal, you wouldn't know a hero if you tripped over one.
Delightful response!
I have no clue what you're saying. Too many meds?
"To" or "Too"? In this case, I suggest it is the latter.

I Have No Idea Whether Or Not You Are Taking Too Many Meds.
I know I will be flamed big time for this..asner is a big time liberal jerk..which is a shame..but that pic is from "Rich Man Poor Man"..a very good mini-series..perhaps the first..if memory serves..asner played the abusive immigrant father of the brothers rich man poor man..he was very protective of his smart son and abusive towards his rough and tumble other son..until one day the tough son, (Nick Nolte) slammed asner into the cake glass..well..the soap opera went on from there..but that was a great show..even if it did star liberals..
Just Because Asner Is A Liberal Jerk Does Not Mean you Are Wrong For Liking His Work.

Could you please stop capitalizing every word... it's annoying.
Sorry, force of habit I've been writing most of the day,and I am working on something that has me writing down a lot of peoples names,I was doing it without thinking.
thanks for snapping me out of that.
LOL... no problem, and I hope I didn't sound whiny.
Kay Jewelers were ADVERTISERS on Air America???? Are you sure??? We have stock...I would be VERY disappointed!!!
As I understand it, many of the "corporate sponsors" of Air America bought commercials on the various stations before there was an Air America. As contracts expire, the advertisers have been dropping like flies - not necessarily for ideological purposes, but because the audience numbers dropped like a rock. When the stations were running Korean Gospel Hour or whatever, the ratings were much, much higher.
You have to seriously suck to tank the ratings of a 250 watt blowtorch. It's estimated that in some markets, Air America's ratings are less than one listener per watt the station runs. If you could get 40 people in your house to watch a light bulb, it would actually be a more efficient use of energy than Air America (and much more entertaining).
