9/11 briefly bridged the gap. But now its wide open again. I afraid that it will remain the same until bigger tragedies will clear Leftists' minds (or kill us all).

I have watched America sliding down the slippery slope for 40 years now. It always seemed like there was time to recover. I fear now we have slid very close to the edge of the cliff. Once over that cliff, there is no return without revolution.

Four years in which Kerry can run from the WOT, demolish our capability of responding to threats with force with budget cuts and PC strings, and establish a permanent left-wing monarchy in the US Supreme Court would be, I fear, more than the system can handle.

I hate to sound so apocalyptic. But if Kerry wins, I start looking for hidey-holes in other countries. Things could get really nasty here for Christians and conservatives. I have no faith in the congressional Republicans to stop any of these events.

We are two nations in one.

We are indeed.

This is a vital point, because either this year or sometime in the next decade a Democratic administration may well take the reins of power and in matters of national security it will be far to the left of the Liebermans of the world.

And the disturbing events that we saw in the 1990s — constant appeasement of Middle East terrorists and their national sponsors, the emergence of a nuclear Pakistan and North Korea, sudden withdrawal from messy places like Mogadishu, a jetting special envoy Jimmy Carter — will return, though made worse through the prism of the present fury over Iraq.

If it were not so tragic it would be ironic to see what the present prescient critics are going to say — much less do — when they confront the hideous reality that Iran and perhaps Syria will have acquired nuclear weapons and with them the ability, without a neighboring nuclear India staring them down, to blackmail most of the Middle East and the oil-hungry world at large.

We will soon learn what Middle Eastern nuclear honor, atomic loss of face, or radioactive jihad really means. Most who now damn unilateralism and preemption won't find their beloved but shaken U.N., EU, or NATO at their side. More likely there will come a day when in exasperation they will call up someone like Don Rumsfeld for advice — albeit in silence and off the record.

You know, this little passage brings to mind a certain gentleman's apocalyptic predictions in the late 70's , as Jimmie Carter's national experiment in a presidency of the incompetent was winding to a close -- remember how he advised us to have a ' back door ' exit plan, if the stuff ever hit the fan ?

Its apparent that if we live long enough, we're going to see another Democrat in tha office, and if present conditions prevail, and the country is at war, we are going to see another disaster.

Perhaps I am pessimistic, and some new paradigm will emerge ( ie. another political party ) , that will spare us the experience of the appeasement crowd being in power once again....

give him weopans to start a second war against Iran,

A terrible idea.

We would have been on the wrong side of history.

The Iranians are among the most pro-American people on this planet.

If we support them in their struggle against the Mullahs, we will have the start of a great friendship.

The Mullans don't have much time left. The critical issue is when their Nuke Plant comes online.

Iraq is THE logical place to establish our resence and have bases for this war. We probably were not up totaking on Iran and Arabia might just have got the oilfields blown. In Iraq we are next to Iran and Syrìa and don't have to worry about Sadam. We are already leaning pretty hard on Syria and pressurin the Sauds. Things in Iraq are falling our way steadily. This AbuG BS has provided, inadvertently, a screen that covers the fact that our guys are biting off a piece here and a piece there steadily shrinking the territory of the enemy. You can see it in the fact that the civilian "authorities" are yelling at the Sadrites to cool it, not at the Americans. They wouldn't be doing that if they didn't think the Americans are winning.

I think that at some point as the porn show starts to fade off the screen the press is going to look back and see whoa! the place is peaceful and the government is working. They may still present that as a disaster and blame W or they may try to take credit for themselves and the Democrats somehow but it will be obvious to voters how it is.

Only a grand strategery can win this war (which, contrary to Hanson's contention, didn't end in 11 weeks. It still goes on, and I thought there was finally a quiet consensus that this is the way it had been planned by the other side,) which is what we ain't got! The grand strategery of US presidents is to get re-elected or, during the 2nd term, to get their successor elected. This means that above all they fight like crazy to maintain the status quo, to maintain some semblance of stability. The concern for (mostly economic) stability trumps everything, which is why we can't risk going after the Saudis, and why we never went after Castro, and why, after all, Senator Teddy remains Senator Chicken Hatch's "dearest friend".

Let me post once again a link to what I consider to be the last word on Iraq: War in the Absence of Strategic Clarity
