I am afraid you are right, and I don't think the Americans or westerners are capable, for the most part, of supporting the kind of retaliation this butchery deserves.

Look at it from the perspective of these masqued scum. They slowly butcher this guy, film it, distrinute it, and they get immediate world-wide coverage, they intensify anti-war sentiment at home, and they demoralize other civilians over there.

Conclusion? Nothing succeeds like success and they repeat the demonstration.

The only suitable, rational response is one we are incapable of taking - drawing by lot ten Muslim terrorists, publicly beheading them, and burying the corpses in a pigskin with a warning that we will escalate our payback with each additonal western hostage captured or killed.
Next time - twenty Muslim terrorists feel the knife.

The other thing we should be doing, along with Israel, and every one else who is terrorized by these scum is to retaliate against their families.

If a terrorist or suicide bomber can be identified, and their families located, they should be captured, beheaded, and buried in pigskins. In a tribal society in which allegience to the extended family and tribe is more important than one's own survival, such tactics will reap rewards.

None of this is very pretty and it goes against western sensibilities of fairness and justice. However, it is the ONLY successful way to deal with people who think like these.

But we won't do it. We will continue to try to play the nice guy with a bunch of sub-human scum and in the long run - they will win because of it.

People like the Mongols, the Turks, the Romans successfully dealt with similar situations and the only way we can equally succeed is to emulate their ferocity.

NOW is the time to (belatedly) benchmark our current and ineffective methodology Vs. what Westerners did to counter this the last time it happened (~ 900 - 1400 AD). For example, what did the Vienna do to those they actually captured (a small number since most were destroyed outright in battle)?

absolutely. i would go further and force the iraqi people to police their own. if an american is murdered i would burn the entire city to the ground and let nobody out. and send those videos to al jazeera. and then promise to give their land to israel...ha. watch how fast that would end.
