After 9/11 I heard people talking about using nuclear weapons to blow up the Arab world. I used to think that was reactionary and over the top. After this, I don't think that as much.

Faced with the prospect of seeing one American after another being captured, tortured, and savagely beheaded and having the indignity of it all broadcast on the internet, I have a little more understanding as to why Truman brought WWII to an end in the manner he did.

It's ugly and it won't make us any friends. But the Arab threat to the world will be crushed decisively, just like the Japanese threat during WWII was.

You have some very interesting positions.

I have always advocated, since the 60's, the total prosecution of warfare by warlike means. To me, shock and awe would have been a mushroom cloud blooming over Baghdad. Yes, Truman understood the 'Patton Principle' - "...make the other poor bustard die for his country". How many of the 58,000 that died (or are missing) during Viet Nam would still be with us if we had prosecuted that 'war' like a true military operation and won it within the first two years. For crying out loud, it didn't take ten years to defeat Hitler and the Japanese!!

Likewise, how long are we going to let the Islamists hold us hostage to our own need to 'be liked by the world'? If it hasn't been noticed by now let me shed some light on a (at least to me) glaring fact; most of the world, Islamic or otherwise, dislike us now anyway! I spent my tour of duty in Munich in the early sixties (before the A-Teams became company sized units in Viet Nam) and the Germans distaste for Americans was only lightly veiled. From what I can gather that dislike has only deepened since then. The French kicked us out of France about the same time (mid-60's) because their dislike for us never lessened from WWII - yeah, I know we defeated Fascism and 'liberated' them but we also exposed just how deeply in bed with the Nazis they really were. Besides, Eisenhower was very open about how he felt about Degaule. And even though our politicians at the time (early 60's again) thought that if we bailed them out of 'French Indochina' they'd relent and embrace our proposed 'nuclear umbrella' approach to the defense of Europe and not go nuclear in their own right. Guess what? Being nice to them didn't help. Just like trying to appease the world now won't help.

Terrorist understand terror. So take it to them. Bounce the rubble, salt the earth and move on.

Yes, they need to be fought and crushed like the Japanese. The writer of this article gives too much credit to Muslim religion. Muslim religion is a satanic offshoot of the Judeo-Christian religion.
