When Hoover Institution historian Robert Conquest used newly available data from the Soviet Union to update The Great Terror, his account of Stalin’s murderous purges of the 1930s, his publishers asked for a new title. "How about I Told You So, You F***ing Fools?" Conquest suggested.

What I find offensive is that after all of this, they're still defending Communism.

As many liberals like to say, "Communism failed only because the right people weren't in charge."

Of course in their mind, They are the "right people" and it would have worked if they had been running the Soviet Union.

Great article,I'll save for a reread. He did use HUAC.TheHouse Committee on Un American Activities was fondly referred to as the House UnAmerican Activities Committee by its detractors and it stuck. One can immediately see the implication in changing the position of the word:Un American.

There were communists, communist sympathizers, and "useful idiots" in government.Alger Hiss, urbane, nuanced, patrician, was a spy for the USSR.Frumpy Whittacker Chambers told the truth.

"Whenever the nation is under attack, from within or without, liberals side with the enemy," Coulter writes. "This is their essence."

That’s idiotic, to be sure

Oh, I don't know ... I think she has a pretty good point there.

Yep, DU had this discussion several weeks back. Several of them wish the Great Experiment (the Soviet Union) was still around. And that was their opinion, if only they had the right leadership. As long as their are people involved, Communism is doomed to failure. There are no exceptions.

....and the Universities continue to brainwash young minds about communism. Perhaps that's why there has never been a big deal made about the millions upon millions of murders the Soviet regime committed during it's lifespan. No, they'd simply rather point out all of America's supposed flaws.

Communism fails because it causes the wrong people to become in charge (if they aren't already). The more power the government has, the worse will be the class of people competing to run it.

Case in point, the United States Congress

Time’s Strobe Talbott decreed in 1982 that it was "wishful thinking to predict that international Communism some day will either self-destruct or so exhaust itself in internecine conflict that other nations will no longer be threatened." A Wall Street analyst who misjudged a stock so badly would find himself living under a bridge, if not sharing a cell with Martha Stewart. But Talbott instead became Bill Clinton’s deputy secretary of state, where he could apply his perspicacious geopolitical perceptual powers to Osama bin Laden.

Oddly enough, these are the same people who can see no conceivable possibility for a Bush administration misinterpretation of the evidence about Iraqi WMDs other than intentional lying.

Too bad they don't apply the same standard to their own interpretation of often fuzzy data.

I just had an argument over on a game message board about the evils of communism. The true believers will never let the truth interfere with their beliefs, the guy thought it was a sign of bad character on my part that I refuse to be friends with anyone that supports communism after being shown the truth of communism's evil. In the eyes of a commie symp not wanting to be friends with supporters of mass murder is shallow.
