Chinese market explosion injures 33

AP - An explosion at a market in China's south-west injured 33 people, the government's Xinhua News Agency reported.

Authorities suspected the blast in the city of Guiyang was intentional, the agency said, but a police official reached by telephone declined to speculate on the possible motive.

The blast, at 1pm on Tuesday (1500 AEST) "was caused by a powerful explosion device" placed under a platform in the market, Xinhua said, citing local sources.

The explosion "split many steel bars into pieces," the news agency said.
