1989 Boston Globe: John Kerry - The Senate's New Romeo?
The Boston Globe Archives | August 22, 1989 | John Robinson

Posted on 04/25/2004 3:50:59 PM PDT by nwrep

His divorce has been final for only six months, but already Sen. John Kerry has acquired a first-class rake's reputation in the rarefied world of rich, handsome, young bachelor senators.

To hear the gossips tell it, the tall, dark-haired former Navy officer with the surgically improved chin has been cutting a swath through the ranks of America's most available young women, inspiring both admiration and envy among the capital's preening young singles.

There was the lithesome, British-born researcher for ABC-TV, Emma Gilby, whose long affair with Kerry has left her speechless about it. "There's just nothing I want to say about it," she said.

There was also Morgan Fairchild, the movie actress whom Kerry reportedly courted on the Q.T. while dating another woman.

More recently, there was Catherine Oxenberg.

His long love affair with Boston attorney Roanne Sragow collapsed under the weight of repeated press allegations of simultaneous love affairs Kerry was conducting with Sragow and other women, most notably Fairchild

Being roughly the same age as the sinator, I must say - NEVER would I have found crazy-legs kerry "handsome".

Tom Selleck, yes! Jack Lord, not bad. Plastic-boy kerry, NEVER!

What did his chin look like before if this is the improved version?

I'm sure someone will be kind enough to post a still shot from the Meet the Press Interview or the Congressional Hearings from the 70's...as compared to any photo of Kerry today. The docs musta whacked off a good inch or two. He still has that nasty habit of sticking out his tongue when he talks, tho. Drives me nuts.

I really don't care about who he ran around with ...

In today's society, dating a glamorous actress ads "appeal" to your image anyway ...

But notice that the press has CONSISTENTLY ignored these tidbits, while focusing endlessly on legal, rthical, business ties between Cheney and Hallliburton!

"Among the goodies lobbyists and other insiders provided Kerry, writes Michael Grunwald of The New Republic, were “a car he ‘leased’ for 16 months without any payments, a ritzy condo he rented for $200 per month from a friendly developer, a no-risk $21,000 real estate windfall arranged by a top fund-raiser, a lobbyist’s $8,000-per-month waterfront apartment where he crashed without paying.”

In fact, Kerry has long admitted that he had corrective surgery to his jaw in the 1970s - only he maintains it was to fix a bite malocclusion that he's had since childhood, as aides told The Hill earlier this year.

He is quite accustomed to having his doctors explain things. Seems strange with Swiss finishing schools, Yale and such that his parents never fixed a problem he had since youth. Or was a problem with a hockey injury? (Biking injury and the shoulder surgery--another pattern.)

I am only surprised that he didn't go back and film a recreation of the doctor's recommending surgery.

I think it was Don Imus who used to call him the Larry Fortensky of the Senate.

Actually, sriously, there is an inherited trait called "Hapsburg jaw" (a protruding lower jaw) that can and *should* be corrected through surgery. I know a man who has had this surgery, and his daughter, who inherited the trait, will also have the surgery when she is old enough. So if Kerry had this condition, I would not blame him for having that surgery.

Botox, however, is another matter.

Yeah, the chin improvement has been discussed on Free Republic before. It came up during the Botox discussions.

I can't remember the source, but he had a couple of inches lopped off.

Maybe he could try out if they do a male version of The Swan.

It wasn't protruding, it was just hangin' around down there.

The only inherited trait connected to the Habsburgs, that I know of, is the Hapsburg lip (die Hapsburger Lippe). This was a trait that is evident in old paintings which showed the lower lip as prominent. A Hapsburg jaw is a new one on me. If it's rare, I'm sure Lurch has it.
