Pete Coors puts his cash where his sentiments lie
Rocky Mountain News ^ | April 24, 2004 | Jim Tankersley And Gwen Florio

Pete Coors has never held public office, but he and his family have influenced Colorado and national politics for decades - with money.

The clan of brewing barons has gained a reputation as one of America's strongest supporters of conservative causes. A Rocky Mountain News analysis of Coors political contributions through time shows that status is well-earned.

Millions of family dollars have flowed to Republican candidates and conservative groups in the past 30 years, starting with the formation of the Heritage Foundation think tank in 1973.

Included are $1.8 million in federal donations since 1979 and another $625,000 in Colorado since 1994, the first year for which data are available electronically.

I was impressed with how he handled the NYT picture mixup by laughing and saying .. at least they didn't confuse me with John Kerry. LOL!

Like their politics, but their Amber Edge sucks worse than their beer.

Don't think this hasn't influenced my decision regarding the beer I drink. I'm sipping on a Coors Lite Wide Mouth right now. Ahhhhhh, Freeping at it's best.

The NYT compares Coors to a guy from the KKK, and he laughs about it - even though I am perfectly confident IT WAS NOT A MISTAKE! Nothing dims do to repubs is ever a mistake.

And now the dims are whining and want an apology because Coors said that at least they didn't get him confused with John Kerry ..??

Good grief ..!!

I wrote a letter to the NYSlimes several years ago insisting that their mistakes were intentional since they always seemed to be detrimental to the republicans.

Along with the form letter reply the guy actually wrote that he was insulted that anyone would think the paper was biased and that they do everything in their power to be objective.

Still laughing over that LIE.

"The Heritage Foundation is not moderate," he said. "The Free Congress Foundation is not moderate . . . If you match up the agendas of those organizations, it's going to give you a good indication of where Pete Coors is."

I had no idea that Coors started the Heritage Foundation. Good for them.

Now the conundrum, do I give up my Sam Adams for Coors? That's a toughy. Maybe I'll occasionally bite the bullet.

They have also been known to sponsor (GASP!) shooting events. Never knew they were conservative boosters. Please tell me that they make a good dark I can buy.

I read about the NYT mistake, and heard Coors joke about it. But at the time I did not know he was running for office. NYT has to know, or should have known the difference. This is outrageous.

I just have to say that I dealt with a member of the Coors family on a campaign here in California. He was a great conservative, smart, entertaining and a hard worker.

The really best part though was when we were having a headquarters opening and he said "Oh I didn't realize that was today. I'll be back in about an hour."

The fine young lad showed up just in time with a vanload of the Rocky Mountain's finest. There was so much product that it lasted a couple of weeks.

So here's to you Mr. Brewing Family political activist. You can come work on one of my campaigns any time you want!

They used to make a beer called "Coors Extra Gold" that was darker than regular Coors, but I haven't seen it for a while. Don't think they make anything like a genuine stout or porter type brand, though I could be wrong. They have a website that lists all their brands, might check that out.

I don't know too much about their beer since I'm not much of a beer drinker.

But, when I occasionally have a beer I've always preferred Coors.

I like this guy, and the fact that I think he'll keep the Senate seat for us, but man oh man, does he have one dumb uncle:

"It was the Democrats that repealed Prohibition," said Bill Coors, who's registered as unaffiliated, "so I would think philosophically the whole family ought to be grateful to the Democrats, and we ought to be behind them 100 percent."

?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

This has to be the dumbest statement I've ever heard in my entire life.

-Sigh- I now know why so many conservative older folks vote D.

I have wondered who the dim is that running against Coors, but I don't live in CO and I have a hard enough time keeping track of who's running in CA.
