[history]
Pat Tillman - a star football player who walked away from a $3.6 million contract with his team to join the Army Rangers after the 9/11 attacks - was killed in a firefight in Afghanistan, officials said yesterday.
Military officials told The Post that Tillman, 27, was taking part in a combat patrol in Operation Mountain Storm when he was killed Thursday night. The offensive is a massive assault against al Qaeda and Taliban groups hiding in the mountainous no-man's land.

"Just know this: Pat Tillman made a decision based on some real values. The words honor, integrity, dignity, commitment - they were not just adjectives for Pat Tillman. They were realities in his life."

I'll tell you this...
John Kerry's bragging rights about Vietnam fall to dust when compared to a patriot like Pat Tillman!
A soldier among soldiers.
God Bless this man, and his family!

I have to be honest, I never heard of Tillman before this, but I think I'm not exaggerating too much by saying that he's the Glenn Miller of his day. He gave up a life of fame and wealth to fight for his country, and made the ultimate sacrifice.
We've heard a lot of phony talk about war heroes who came back to protest their own countries in the middle of a war and who accused their fellow soldiers of atrocities, but now we know who a real hero is.

John Kerry's bragging rights about Vietnam fall to dust when compared to a patriot like Pat Tillman! Has anyone heard Kerry speaking about Tillman's tragic death? He's probably avoiding it to avoid the stark contrast.

texasbluebell said that she heard on Fox this morning the Major Paul Valley's son was killed yesterday. I don't know where he was located and apparently it was only mentioned in passing.

It is men like Tillman that keep this country free. As it was said by our patriots in the past, "The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood patriots."
Tillman sits at Gods Right Hand as we speak.

(with apologies to the forum...I'm putting this on the Pat Tillman threads for
publicity and to bump the threads. My apologies in advance if this is already
common knowledge.)
I just heard on ABC Radio News that a sports agent informed Pat Tillman of the
interest that the Seattle Seahawks had in him (last year?).
Tillman told the agent that he (Tillman) could have get his release from the service
but that he had made his committment and would stay in the military.
If true as reported, the Tillman legacy just got a little larger.

Money and fame aside, what more important duty is there than killing terrorists and being a hand in what is really saving civilization. I was curious about Pat when he made the decision and am even more now.
