People Have Eyes [Noonan]

Edited on 04/23/2004 12:06:46 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I do not know precisely why President Bush's popularity continues high despite a month of the most relentless pounding from partisans, the press, the 9/11 commission and history itself (Fallujah, etc.) No one else knows either. Professionals will read the polls through the prism of their own expertise. Media people will say it's the cumulative effect of Mr. Bush's stirring ads. Those who agree with the president's stand on Iraq will say it's Iraq. Others may argue it's because he put tax cuts at the heart of his economic policy and the economy has begun to rebound. There is probably some truth in all of this. But my guess would be something else.

It's OK that he looks like a sad tree, but you can't look like a sad, hollow tree. And it looks a little hollow in there.

LOL -- she really nails it!

Actually I think Kerry looks like Larry the Cucumber. If I can find a good picture for a side-by-side comparison, I think others will agree.

If Bill Clinton, who thought Iraq had WMDs, had invaded Iraq post-9/11 and not found them, he would have been thrown out of office.

Unfortunately this is wrong. The press would have pretended that he never made the claim. Think of the Kosovo.

Unlike some parts of the country,Texans revere a mans word and how he keeps it. You come into this world with nothing and you leave with nothing, the only thing you have to show for yourself is if your word means anything while you are here.

You know why they can't define what's wrong with Mr. Bush? Because they don't even know what's wrong with him beyond that he is not them, not Mr. Kerry, not a Democrat. -Peggy Noonan

Vague, but true. He is not them. He has a moral gyroscope; he is not defined by political correctness.

I'd like to put an end to the denigration of the distinguished senior Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Mr. Teddy Chappaquiddick Kennedy, on this issue. So what if he claims that "Bush concocted the war in Texas for political gain." Kennedy has concocted everything he has ever said and done in his entire political life in Massachusetts or Washington, DC for his own political gain. I think that Kennedy's comment simply reflects his own narrow-minded decision-making process, although he fruitlessly attempts to make it into attack Bush because he is a Texan rancher rather than a Boston sophisticate.

Hold on there, Skylark! You'd better take that back, right now! I've watched Larry the Cucumber for many years. I'm a Big Fan of Larry. He's been a household fixture for our children, a model of rectitude. I know Larry quite well, and I can tell you this . . . John F'n Kerry is no "Larry the Cucumber"!

"You know why they can't define what's wrong with Mr. Bush? Because they don't even know what's wrong with him beyond that he is not them, not Mr. Kerry, not a Democrat."

Even beyond that, they can't see what's right with him. They can't understand anyone who tries to do the best they can, without guile and lies, without the need to hide bad motives by using good rhetoric.

Kerry isn't the only one who's hollow. The entire party is hollow.

Bush is diligent and optimistic.

Kerry is self-centered and defensive.
