“We begin from the term ‘huri,’ for which the Arabic commentators could not find any meaning other than those heavenly virgins. But if one keeps in mind the derivations from Syro-Aramaic, that expression indicated ‘white grapes,’ which is one of the symbolic elements of the Christian paradise, recalled in the Last Supper of Jesus.

This is truly an important interpretation of the Koran from its linguistic origins! Those virgins are, in reality, the grapes that were used to make the wine served at the Last Supper!

Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list

“In its origin, the Koran is a Syro-Aramaic liturgical book, with hymns and extracts from Scriptures which might have been used in sacred Christian services.

You find a depressing consistency in the discussions and articles - the classic Islamic interpretation of the Koran is certainly wrong but there are violent attempts to stop scholars from questioning the Koran ... for example: But many Muslims find the tone and claims of revisionism offensive. "I think the broader implications of some of the revisionist scholarship is to say that the Koran is not an authentic book, that it was fabricated 150 years later," says Ebrahim Moosa, a professor of religious studies at Duke University, as well as a Muslim cleric whose liberal theological leanings earned him the animosity of fundamentalists in South Africa, which he left after his house was firebombed.

Furthermore, this is evidence that Arabic civilization was built on the Christian Syriac civilization that preceded it ... much of this cultural learning happened in places like Mosul and Arbala, in a country that - badda bing - is today called Iraq.

From Craig Winn, author of Prophet of Doom:

"Islam rises and falls on Muhammad. He is the doctrine’s sole prophet, its lone founder, its god’s singular conduit. Yet the picture the Islamic scriptures paint is not flattering. I analyzed the five most holy Islamic books and spent two years studying Muhammad and his message. What I found was bone chilling. The depiction of the prophet by the most revered Muslim sources is horrendous. Nearly every page reveals behavior that is immoral, criminal, and violent. The five oldest and most trusted Islamic sources don’t portray Muhammad as a great and godly man. They reveal that he was a thief, liar, assassin, mass murderer, terrorist, warmonger, and an unrestrained sexual pervert engaged in pedophilia, incest, and rape. He authorized deception, assassinations, torture, slavery, and genocide. He was a pirate, not a prophet. According to the Hadith and the Qur’an, Muhammad and his henchmen plundered their way to power and prosperity. And by putting the Qur’an in chronological order and correlating it with the context of Muhammad’s life as it was reported in the Sira, Sunnah and Hadith, we also find that Allah mirrored his prophet’s character. Muhammad’s god condoned immoral and criminal behavior. Allah boasts about being a terrorist. He claims to have deceived men, to have stolen their property, to have enslaved women and children, to having committed acts of murder, genocide, and sadistic tortures..."

Even a demon can spew out verses of scripture, as Satan (and Mohammed) showed so clearly. And, then, when some fool writes the garbled, hell-inspired, misinterpretations down, you have the Koran!

A few years ago, one of his colleagues at the University of Nablus in Palestine, Suliman Bashear, was thrown out of the window by his scandalized Muslim students.

Ahhh... the sweet religion of peace in action. I wonder if these scandalized students went on a rape and murder spree to celebrate their victory.

That's true. Everything the devil has done is basically a perversion of what God has done.

The Koran was written by Mohammed - who proclaimed to have been visited by "an angel of light" who gave him the Koran.

According to scripture, Jesus warned us against receiving anything from an "angel of light". I would presume GOD believed we were able to discern between an angel of the Lord, and an angel of light.

And .. the scripture also says that "an angel of light" is an evil spirit.

The only reason the Koran found an audience was the hatred Ishmael had for Israel which he had sown into the Arab community. Through that hatred, Mohammed used his Koran to brainwash the Arabs that they had a GOD-sanctioned right to kill Jews.

The only relationship to Christianity is Ishmael's connection to Abraham.

Oh .. and I'm not requiring anyone to agree with me.

There are a number of scholars contributing to this project at my university as well. Perhaps some good will come of it.

Time to start selling tee shirts in the Middle East that read:

"I blew up myself for Allah and all I got were these lousy grapes."

A layer cake of slavery, misogyny and death with blood-clot icing and demon sprinkles.

Care for a piece? They're serving it ala commode!

I remember reading somewhere back in my college days that Mohamed suffered from seizers, and most of his 'inspired' writings were written while in an 'altered' state of mind.
