Abortion Advocates Struggle to Find Marchers, Look to Celebs for Help

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-abortion groups are having a tough time finding enough abortion advocates across the country to attend their national march that will be held in less than two weeks. To get more people to the event, they have enlisted the support of top Hollywood celebrities to help them.

Leading groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and the ACLU have spent over a year touting the April 25 march, but are now relying on leading television and movie stars and pop music icons to get more people to the nation's capital.

More than 100 celebrities have signed up to lend their endorsement to the pro-abortion march. Others will attend in person.

The list ranges from musicians such as Christina Aguilera, Lisa Loeb, and Ashley Judd to actors such as Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Bacon, and Alec Baldwin and other notables like Ted Turner, Cindy Crawford, and Jane Fonda.

"The right to decide when or whether to have a child is a fundamental human right," said actress Helen Hunt. She decried the cuts in taxpayer-funded abortions President Bush has put in place by reissuing the Mexico City Policy.

"It's important that all Americans stand up for their rights and the rights of all women worldwide," adds LisaGay Hamilton, actress in ABC's drama "The Practice."

Meanwhile, Bradley Whitford, an actor from the NBC political drama "West Wing," plans to attend the event in person.

"My message to the politicians will be simple: Enough is enough. We have the right to make our own deeply felt, deeply moral decisions," Whitford said.

But not all celebrities back abortion. Others say women deserve better than abortion.

Two-time Emmy award winning actress Patricia Heaton, a star on the hit comedy series "Everybody Loves Raymond," is unabashedly pro-woman and pro-life.

Heaton, who has been the honorary co-chair of Feminists for Life since 1998 believes it is better to "make the system conform to what is best for you and your baby instead of making the baby go away to conform to what is best for the system."

She decries groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL who make it appear that abortion is preferential to motherhood.

"Even though we are a very baby-friendly environment, I still think that there's a lot of feeling out there that [mothers have] second-class status in society," Heaton said.

Kathy Ireland, the first "supermodel," agrees that the rights of women and unborn children can go hand in hand.

"I'm liberal about the rights of the unborn child," Ireland explained. "I'm [also] a person who always has and always will fight for the rights of women."

Ireland says that once she realized the humanity of the unborn, she could no longer take a pro-choice position. "From the moment of conception, a new life comes into being with a complete genetic blueprint. The sex is determined. The blood type is determined. It doesn't start out as one species and suddenly become a human being."

The coalition of Hollywood celebrities backing the pro-abortion March includes:

Most of the usual suspects, and some new names.

God bless Patricia Heaton, Kathy Ireland (and Jennifer O'Neill who is part of the Silent No More campaign).

How about deciding to be responsible? I find it interesting that she believes individuals have the sacred right to choose but she also believes that once that right is exercised then the rest of us have to pay for it rather we agree or not.

Oh wait...there must be a mistake. Jane Fonda is a born-again believer, remember? Now that she has the indwelling Holy Spirit, she beieves in the sanctity of life. Geesh, what a total disappointment.

Except politicians never made abortion a "right" - it was crammed down the throat of America by the unelected judges of the supreme court in a split decision.

Well, that's probably just a fraction of the Hollywood elite who are pro-abortion.

It also reads like a who's who of fallen-away Catholics. Martin Sheen is such a poseur.

I don't think any of the names surprised me, but it was nice to see Patricia Heaton and Kathy Ireland speak out with conviction.

Patricia Heaton is a real class act. She's not afraid to have her pro-life convictions be public knowledge.

It's still amazing to me that the pro-choice, radical Feminazis still don't realize that the founders of the feminist movement were very much pro-life!

When I got home from work one day last week there was a message on my answering machine from NARAL urging me to attend the Washington DC march and trying to scare me about the evil republicans. I deleted the message before it occured to me to transcribe and post it here. I am only sorry that I was not home when they called so that I could voice my opinion to them personally.

This is great. And, this is something that will drive the left crazy. WE'RE the liberals, YOU LEFTISTS ARE NOT.

Martin Sheen is such a poseur.

He's a Kerry Catholic. Some time ago, he signed a "seamless garment" pledge that links abortion to various other forms of violence. At the time, that was the PC stance for Leftists who wanted to be thought "spiritual." But now the lines have been redrawn, and the more prominent of those people have signed on with the most radical secularists. Naturally, they continue to claim their convictions of the day are "spiritual."

Bradley, Bradley, Bradley....choosing to kill a baby is an immoral decision. You have chosen to march with a group of people that are doing Satan's work.

Answer me this, Brad: aren't you glad your mother decided not to abort you?

The pro-choicers are probably busy in a MoveOn.org march that day or getting ready for a million moron march event...or hopefully their constituency is beginning to see the light and shy away from advocacy of child murder.

Kathleen Turner doesn't have to worry about abortion rights, having turned into a man about ten years ago.

Hollywierd celebs defending selection of serial killers to terminate alive unborn children, as if that murderous posture is an enlightened civilized way. Are we surprised? These freaks live, work, and deal in fantasy. These same freaks are promoting cannibalism as enlightened medical advance.

I have never heard of half of these people, though I don't count it as any sort of loss.

Kathy Ireland and Patricia Heaton would be great dinner dates anytime. Great on the eyes and intelligent to converse with.

I remember her! She had a minor indy hit song about ten years ago.

You could tell she was an artist to be taken seriously, because she wore dweeby glasses.

Sarah McLachlan? She just had a kid, that's really odd that she'd throw in with this lot.

Too bad, really.

Well, hell, now that I know Bonnie Franklin is endorsing this, I might just change my mind about abortion!

Seriously, dragging out a 1970's TV star who probably hasn't had an acting gig in 10 years... they're really dragging the bottom to come up with some names, aren't they?

I've never heard of the vast majority of people on the list, and I'm not surprised at any of those who I have heard of.
