At 12:30 PM CDT today, Nashville, Tn was the coldest spot in the contiguous United States; the above Jet Stream image is, to my knowledege, unprecedented and I have over 10 years in Meteorology.
As of 00Z 04/14/04 the North Atlantic image shows this:
We have had snow, sleet and rain all day here and I don't see any movement of consequence.
It is as though we are in the ice bucket of the world's refrigerator.

Wow. I've had people tell me to avoid Nashville before but go into polar orbit???

Narrow focus - perspective?

Look at the North Atlantic ocean high/low conflict and tell me how this storm is going eastward before Thursday...

Mighty odd isn't it? It has been a bit chilly here the past few days in TX too. Maybe global cooling?
I suggest we all drive an extra 15 minutes per day until we get the greenhouse gas balance restored.

Well, I wouldn't say unprecedented. See the April 1990 - the temp in TN averaged 22-27 degrees mid month.
It just looks like a typical spring change setup - maybe a tad bit slower, but then again, the ocean currents have alot to do with jetstream variability, correct?
Maybe if we can find a correlation with the blue water current.

"April is the cruelest month.."
" Spring, when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of love..." LOL Or gets frozen off. :0)
Just some silly thoughts on an April night.

Look at the North Atlantic ocean high/low conflict and tell me how this storm is going eastward before Thursday...Why does Thursday matter?

Two days ago, Laredo was at 35 F at 4:00 PM, a full 35 F below normal for this time of year; at that time the flow was sinusoidal, now it is fully confounded, almost arrhythmic.

I blame Garth Brooks.

It probably has something to do with the Predators beating the Red Wings.... Cold day in hell and all that.

Could be a breach in the space time continuum.

Any of your neighbors using an excessive amount of electricity lately?

Because I have work to do tomorrow. Anyway, if the compression your forecast shows does take place it will still leave us far short of average temps on Thursday for this time of year and I am just sick and tired of this crappy weather.

Anybody listening? It was 36F in Nashville, Tn today and warmer everywhere else - am I being punished?
Nice site; it still looks like Friday or Saturday before we get back to normal. You could watch the petals fall from the flowers today as the slutty, chilled spit slid to the cold, cold ground here today.

I nearly froze my arse off today working in Belle Meade. You'd think that place would at least have climate control control, wouldn't you? :-)
Or maybe algore is out of town and took his global warming hot air with him.

Hey Prof!
I was driving to work this morning and heard the radio (96.3-Coyote McCloud) say snow. I thought, "Whaaaat?" Sure enough, it was actually snowing soon after. I emailed some friends around the country and they all said the same thing-"Huh?!" :^) Weird.

Hmmm .... next up ... earthquakes ... I'll blame the New Madrid Fault Zone for your jet stream anomaly.
