There was local gun control in the Old West, and in New York City early in the last Century. We've had federal gun control for what, about 60 years? I'm honestly OK with no machine guns, not armor piercing bullets, not exploding bullets. I know other's think people should have them. Either way, isn't it possible that liberal pro-gun control advocates are wrong and not evil? Does anyone think the feds instituted gun control so that their great-great-great grandchildren could violently oppress Americans?

"Does anyone think the feds instituted gun control so that their great-great-great grandchildren could violently oppress Americans?" We are notionally, a people governed by our consent. True consent is only possible when the party granting consent maintains the ability to refuse. Unfortunately, many in our nation have lost sight of the above, and have been all too willing to surrender the legitimacy of our consent, while many in power have worked to erode the same.
It doesn't matter if it's an insidious consipracy or simply an ill-considered venture into wishful idealism...the results will be the same.
