Q: Why was this PDB prepared?

DCI Tenet has already described the genesis of this PDB item in a letter to the 9-11 Commission dated March 26, 2004. This PDB item was prepared in response to questions President Bush asked his PDB briefer. The President had seen previous intelligence reports about possible al-Qa'ida threats to U.S. targets outside the United States. The President had asked whether any of the information pointed to a possible attack inside the United States. When this PDB item was presented to the President on August 6, 2001, his PDB briefer told him that it was prepared in response to the President's previous questions.

has anyone spoken to the fact that the classified PDB was disclosed at Condi Rice hearing by members of the Commission? is that the way we treat classified info in this country????

1. In the item about the FBI saying there was suspicious activity at FEDERAL BUILDINGS in NYC - when was that info put in a PDB - certainly not for the first time on 8/6/01 - but BEFORE BUSH WAS IN OFFICE.

Somewhere tonight, I heard that this "suspicious activity" was by two Yemeni men - who were later determined to be innocent tourists!

NBC Nightly News and David Gregory from Crawford just gave a relatively fair report upon the release of the PDB. He cited nothing like the leaks and headlines have been screaming, saying only that some on the commission believe the info from that PDB wa sufficient to take action.

Nothing reported from the document indicated as such, which is why it was released.

As I heard on Rush yesterday, some moron was on the Today show this week (what else is new) that demanded that the Bush administration declassify everything related to 9/11.

Yeah, why not, let's declassify everything and dissolve our intelligence agencies! Let's make all the intel and secret briefings open to the public. That'll do the trick!

One very serious missed opportunity to disrupt a terrorist network here in the United States prior to September 11, 2001, involved Yousef’s agreement to meeting in New York between Scarpa’s associates (who would have been disguised FBI agents) and four active (unincarcerated) terrorists. This meeting never took place because the cognizant FBI agents and assistant U.S. attorneys refused to agree to Yousef’s demand that $3,000 be provided to the terrorists.

When future commissions convene, as they have in the past (The Inman Report), perhaps the facts will have caught up with 9-11.

Howlin, was out doing errands. Listening to radio news while in my car (ABC and whoever owns KFWB 98 and 1070). They are spinning it like the memo practically told the President in advance of the precise nature of the 9/11 attacks. I didn't bother listening very closely to any broadcast report since I knew I could read it for myself on FR when I got home.

It's bad for the President only in the sense that the media will twist the truth while shilling for the Dem Party.

Those headlines pretty much reflect the spin on radio news here in L.A. I suspect it will be the same on all the TV news programs as well. It will seep into the average American's largely empty head that the President knew the precise attack plan and did nothing to stop it. Game, set and match to Ben Veniste, Kerrey and company? We'll see come November.

This week the shout shows will probably be rife with Dems attempting to turn this into something negative for Bush, and the media will be there to help...but the actual reporting of the news will convey nothing more than stories about partisan liberals' spinning of the content in the document ("Senator Kennedy says Bush should have acted on info in August 6th Factsheet").

They won't be able to play "gotcha," because once again, they've been gotten.

Well .. I might agree with you except for one thing.

You forgot the most important player = GOD. From personal experience, I can tell you that when you submit your life to GOD, he protects you and defends you.

The dems can do whatever they want .. but you don't seem to think there will be any GOOD things happening on the Bush side which will counter the dems attacks.

What are the dems going to do when the WMD suddenly surfaces ..? I'm not saying it will .. but it could.

What are the dems going to do when Osama is captured ..?? They said we didn't even win the war because we didn't have Saddam. The day after he was captured, the world was happy except for the dems.

As for your prediction that the dems will spend the entire 2nd term impugning this presidency .. it will be very difficult for them to do this when Bush wins by an unprecented landslide.

And .. from all the reports of dems who are quitting in Congress this year .. this will seriously hamper the dems ability to build an attack from inside the govt. Of course we still have the partisan media, but their market share continues to slip on a daily basis. I just don't see your prediction having any teeth to it.

I wouldn't be so sure, CyberAnt. The vast majority of adults in this country pay scant attention to the news. They only get superficial information fed them by the broadcast networks and local stations. And virtually all of those outlets are reporting the story in the manner reflected in headlines posted on this thread. The dominant theme: Bush was told about the plot more than a month before 9/11. Some version of that lie is being repeated endlessly and will be until it becomes conventional wisdom — nevermind that it is absolutely false.
