Ever since Condoleezza Rice revealed Thursday that the title of an Aug. 6, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing was, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States," the press has been feigning cardiac arrest.
Typical was the reaction of MSNBC's Chris Matthews, who complained Thursday night that the PDB headline should have set off smoke alarms at the White House.
"We're talking about five weeks before 9/11, before hell struck in this country," Matthews told his "Hardball" audience. He insisted that the memo should have been enough to send Bush's national security team into a frenzy of action.
But why? As Dr. Rice told 9/11 Commissioner Timothy Roemer, "I don't think you, frankly, had to have that report to know that bin Laden would like to attack the United States."
If Roemer wanted to confirm Rice's contention, all he needed to do was ask Bill Clinton, who was interviewed by the Commission in private after Dr. Rice's testimony.
According to Mr. Clinton's public comments two years ago, he knew bin Laden wanted to strike America as far back as 1996.
Explaining why he declined an offer from Sudan for bin Laden's extradition, Clinton revealed, "At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America, so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him - though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America."
If President Clinton was so unconcerned about the prospect that bin Laden wanted to commit crimes against America that he couldn't be bothered to extradite him, how was a PDB briefing that merely restated that ancient fact supposed to set Bush's hair on fire?
Still, don't look for the press to come clean on the earlier Clinton warning. They've kept his tape recorded confession on the topic bottled up for more than two years now. No point in spoiling a perfectly good election year hoax with the truth.

The media does not really care. They trumpet their own childish frustrations like a school boy cafeteria wimp who thinks someone recieved a bigger piece of pizza. This latest garbage won't fly. They just refuse to see it.

What bugged me about it is, wasn't the info about planes and hijacking from a report in 1998? If it were me, frankly, had I gotten to 2000 without a problem, I'd figure the info was just wrong.

Before the meeting, held in Kerry's Senate office, Liu's sponsor, Johnny Chung, made clear she was interested in getting her company listed on the U.S. Stock Exchange. The Democratic presidential front-runner was only too happy to oblige and ordered his aides to contact the Securities and Exchange Commission. "The next day," reports Newsweek, "Liu and Chung were ushered into a private briefing with a senior SEC official." Within weeks, Chung returned the favor, staging a Kerry fund raiser at a Beverly Hills hotel that raked in $10,000 for the senator's re-election campaign. As Liu and Chung were lining the pockets of the Democratic Party's political elite, Loral handed over top-secret missile guidance technology to Liu's firm. Liu's China Aerospace used the information to perfect Beijing's fleet of intercontinental ballistic missiles, which before the 1990s could not strike the U.S. By the end of the decade, however, China's ICBMs could reach the entire continental United States with pinpoint accuracy, thanks in part to the senator who says now he can be trusted with America's national security. Chung later testified that before Liu wired him the cash to contribute to prominent Democrats, the chief of Chinese intelligence personally told him: "We like your president. AUGUST 23, 1996 : (BIN LADEN'S 'DECLARATION OF WAR' ON US) Date on bin Laden's written "declaration" of attack against the US. The document was written and published about two months after the bombing in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Demands included the removal of US troops from Saudi Arabia, and the overthrow of the government of Saudi Arabia.
I guess someone missed the memo!
