This continues to fascinate me. I also like to look even further back at some of the arrangements which there were in Europe 400 - 1300 AD. Although most history books dwell on feudalism, such a view belies that fact that a number of well formed quasi empire states existed during that period. The key is having a shared overall geostrategic vision and therefore being able to focus on execution of it without wasting time on internal squabbles. Given today's structures, the most obvious arrangement to me takes in the swath of former UK holdings in the Americas, the Pacific Ocean and Asia, sans most of the rabidly Islamist nations, and adds in a small number of selected allies such as Japan, Taiwan, and perhaps Greece and Italy. Leaner is meaner. The combined brawn of India and the US alone would make such an arrangement one to get the attention of the bad guys. But what do I know, I am just a neandarthal, or something along those lines! ;)

Since the Wilson admin..the CFR [Council on Foreign Relations] has been linked to all Whitehouse admins.
Emperor Clintonius had many CFR members..President Bush has many slotted in key positions in his admin.

"The Grand Chessboard - American Primacy And It's Geostrategic Imperatives," Zbigniew Brzezinski, Basic Books, 1997...This is a CFR work which forwards the division and economic management of Asia/Eurasia.

Anyone wondering why the U.S. has appeared in so many **Stans suddenley will understand after the read.

CFR are however *not a one unified..single minded thinktank.
divergent views exist..yet the common denominator is that America should be pre-eminent in geostragtegics..** allways.

Some CFR members are pushing for a 3 state solution to Iraq..Kurd/Sunni/Shia blocks...with Kurds and Shia managing the oil/gas.
Others are more Imperial minded...Europe can take a hike...share nothing.

From Kissinger to Brzezinski....you have power on many levels....influence which runs thru many Whitehouse admins.

There is a Grand Strategy..its allready underway..has been since WW-2.

Oil concession..futures..IMF/World Bank..privitization.
all these entwined in the CFR mandate..which also has historic roots from Europe..as the European money which founded America...founded the CFR .
CFR's history has led to policy making at home in America..and policy overseas.

However things unfold in Iraq..the desire of the CFR is too see the Oil/gas flow to the big cashfest in China.

There has been a significant shift in Americas foreign policy stance.
Emperor Clintonius was a natural for the Strong Euro relationship/IMF World bank etc.
President Bush's admins..CFR's..are different than the former admins.
The process of controlling Asia/Eurasia continues...except European pandering is off the table.

The moaning for America to return to Europe's favor is principly from the CFR..and its many think tank houses and foundations.
the media has a longer relationship history with this crowd..hence the penchant for the Euro crying and America will fail if we do this or that.

John Kerry is a CFR member...so..he has more than Heinz money.

Zbigniew Brzezinski was on the tube recently commenting on America..and his new CFR book.
He did not slam President Bush...nor offer withdraw runnaway talk..
he did however hint that Iraq was not set into motion properly..and mentioned timing.

So important is the CFR cachet considered in Washington, Richard Barnet (CFR) wrote some 20 years ago that "failure to be asked to be a member of the Council has been regarded for a generation as a presumption of unsuitability for high office in the national security bureaucracy."
