Anti-American cleric al-Sadr warns that Iraq could become 'another Vietnam' for America

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Muqtada al-Sadr, the firebrand anti-U.S. Shiite Muslim cleric, warned the United States on Wednesday that Iraq would become another Vietnam-like conflict if Washington did not transfer power to "honest Iraqis." The cleric -- whose militia followers have battled coalition and Iraqi security forces across the country for days -- accused members of the U.S.-appointed Iraqi Governing Council of being "collaborators" and said "they do not represent the Iraqi people."
"I call upon the American people to stand beside their brethren, the Iraqi people, who are suffering an injustice by your rulers and the occupying army, to help them in the transfer of power to honest Iraqis," al-Sadr said in a statement issued by his office in the southern city of Najaf.
"Otherwise, Iraq will be another Vietnam for America and the occupiers," the statement said.
The United States plans to transfer political sovereignty on June 30 to an Iraqi government, however its makeup is yet to be determined. Members of the Governing Council are expected to have prominent roles in it. National elections are scheduled to be held before Jan. 31.
In a separate statement issued earlier Wednesday, al-Sadr also called on Iraq's neighbor Kuwait to close U.S. military bases there so that the region is freed of "the great Satan."
"I call on our brothers of the Kuwaiti people to put pressure on their government to expel these terrorists bases," it said.

ooooh I'm really scared. </sarcasm> Since W is not a Dem, like LBJ, I think he'll let the military do its job to achieve the goals of the administration.

Most of his army will be gone in 24 hours, leaving a mopup and search for Sadr. Hopefully he'll "resist" so that the council can't let him go.

Ok so every Iraqi militant will now be termed as a "Charlie-Mohammed"...or CM for short...

AGAIN...WE HAD A CLEAR SHOT TO KILL AL SADR ON MONDAY WHEN HE FLED THAT MOSQUE. WE FAILED! OUR DOD LEADERSHIP AND PAUL 'PUSSY' BREMER DO NOT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE JOB DONE. THE ONLY THING THE ARAB UNDERSTANDS IS THE RUTHLESS APPLICATION OF FORCE. STOP RESTRAINING OUR BOYS AND THEY WILL GET THE JOB DONE.
To: kattracks
Yeah, quite interesting that the only people who refer to it as another Vietnam are the terrorists and the Left...

Every day I rejoice I'm not Kennedy's proctologist. There's not enough money in the world to pay me for that.

I was thinking.
Can private citizens raise money to hire someone from Black Watch Security? Is that legal?

Then as things usually occur in the military a name will be thought up to go with the "CM" label. Camel seems fitting and it leads to comments about smoking the camels by the hundreds.

Well at least if it does become another Viet Nam, and Kerry is elected, he'll have experience in dealing with the situation. Wonder if this cleric knows Kerry was a Vietnam vet? (end/sarcasm)

OMG, the media appears to be followers of Al Sadar! Why just this morning Helen Thomas and countless other members of our press said the very same thing. Perhaps Kennedy is a muhajadin as well because he said that yesterday.

Actually i was thinking that John Kerry could hire Baghdad Bob as his press secretary.
We will roast the stomachs of republicans as we create 50 million jobs next week. The republicans are on the run, there are no republicans in washington.
