I wholeheartedly agree with your Karen Hughes assessment on immigration; I saw her on O'Reilly, too, and she's a panderer, which tells us where we stand. What my point was is that I think Karl Rove originally squeezed her out and he is now falling out of favor in general, and she's back. Since you saw the interview, too, I think you also saw she claimed she would have prevented the 'Mission Accomplished' scene and the phrase 'misunderestimated'. I just hope the GOP camp gets some stones and gets it together on a strategy soon.

Just as an aside, we had our local GOP District Caucus last Saturday, and one of the candidates gave his political speil, then asked for questions. The only thing delegates wanted to talk about was what ws he going to do to do about the illegal alien mess. He tried the tired pitch about "well we can't round them all up and throw them out", "we need them", "there's no way we can close the border", etc." and the more he talked, the more heated the crowd's responses. He tried switching the subject to telling us what he was doing about the Canadian border. He was told in no uncertain terms that it isn't the Canadians causing us trouble. The Canadians come bearing tons of money to spend here. The Mexicans come bringing crime, drugs and deceit. I think he got a little taste that the folks back home may not be the doormats he assumed they were.
