That cartoon above is the reality of the public response.
Old veterans like me, and most Freepers, wanted to re-enlist immediately and go and kill some terrorist and whoever was on his side.
And I am only 44.

That would be a great bill to introduce..change reenlistment ages so old farts(iam ovr 50 but not much) like us could come out of early retirement and help out in noncombatant(if desired)roles, plus get out of the house for a few years.

The "cartoon" you posted is profound. What a sad picture of the selfish nation we have become. So self absorbed, consumer minded, and some think freedom is a right with no responsibility on our part. The "Greatest Generation" had it right, and I salute them.
I blame some of this on the Clinton administration who did all they could (and still are) to divide us. Once we are united, there is nothing this nation cannot face or do.

Same here. I'm only 32. I didn't reenlist because I was in when slick willie was running us into the ground. I couldn't wait to get out. I have seriously considered going back, but I have 3 kids now and a wife. I'm not sure if I could stand a 80% pay cut! LOL.
Sometimes I feel guilty that I'm living such a comfortable life, when my friends and family are searching for Al Queda in Afganistan or patroling the cities of Iraq.
We thank GOD for men/women who chose to reenlist or even sign-up to serve during these times. It sure humbles you when you think about it. I mention this to people at work when they complain to me about their pathetic problems...it usually shuts them up quick...and they just "drive-on".
