It might not be "religion" that is motivating Qaddafi. I think it is a mixture of two things:
1. Qaddafi does not wish to be dragged from a hole or to make a very close and very brief acquiantance with a JDAM.
2. He wants to be the pan-Arab/Islamic leader.

He got ''religion'' because his butt is on the line too. From what I have read of the al Qaeda they have three goals. The first is to regain lands that were once in Islamic control,( i.e. Spain for one)the second is to convert the world to Islam. The third is to destroy apostate Muslims. Gaddafi, unlike CAIR understands what would happen to him if al Qaeda became the dominant form of Islam.
