"We have your book and we have your press briefing of August 2002. Which is true?" asked commission member Jim Thompson.

Both, Clarke answered.

A prime candidate for a Kerry cabinet position.

A prime candidate for a Kerry cabinet position.

Let's see all Kerry needs is Sybil and there will be enough multiple personalities to fill out his entire administration.

I guess it depends on what the definition of 'is' is.

Oops, wrong administration.

The leftist print & TV news media will try and milk as much Bush bashing as they can from this guy and his lies and then toss him out with the garbage. I'd say he is going to be kicked to the curb VERY shortly now.

Not to nitpick, but if Clark is so smart, why would he use the word "insure" instead of "ensure" ?

Thus, the White House did insure that domestic law-enforcement . . . knew that [his office] believed that a major al Qaeda attack was coming and it could be in the U.S.," Clarke's e-mail said.

I just saw this on Lou Dobbs and as I fumed and got my third cup of coffee it hit me. Maybe Rice will testify but because this White House is so sharp it waited for Clarke to go first so it could have his testimony to refute. If Rice goes first she may not have been able to counter his charges.

I beleive Clarke had to have his book cleared by intell so as be sure he did not reveal classified info. The White House must have saw this comming and planned ahead.

They're smarter than me.

Clarke has lost all credibility and given Bush and Rice the opportunity to open the floodgates of blame.

Exactly like Kerry's attacks on National Guard service led to his outing as SOFT ON DEFENSE.

Clinton will pay dearly for his/her subversion of American National Security.

I BET YOU CAN'T WAIT!

i watched clarke yesterday and it just amazes me noone is asking a couple of simple question:
1. approximately how long in planning and organisation would it take to get the hijackers motivated, trained, skilled, booked on flights, receive money and into the country?

An answer for Dick: anyone who thinks that you can do all this in 7.5 months is a fool. These guys were planning this for YEARS.It just amazes me the number of people that think you can strike like this with a bunch of, lets be honest, not the brightest people on the planet, and just arrive get on a plane and fly it into the WTC and pentagon.

2. Over those years what did ye do?

An answer for Dick: well we watched Osama take a dump via a video feed on the predator, obviously the afghan diet didnt suit him

the issue is Dick...what were you DOING for 8 years!!!

the whole thing make me cringe. In one level they are complaining about government inaction on the predator being armed and yet it was BUSH who got the first successful AlQ kills with this, BUT its Bush's FAULT it took so long to arm..jeeze go figure!!! Clarke is blaming the Cia, the FBI saying noone would take responsibility..WELL DICK i can name a few other people...you were reporting DIRECTLY -- WHAT DID YOU DO TO FORCE IT THRU , DICK THATS YER (bleep)ing JOB!!!!!!

If i worked in the CIA, there is no way, no way , in the 90's i would be taking responsibility for an action, that the president was going to hang you out to dry, if it went belly up. No one was standing up for the guy with the weapon. they were too busy with legal teams and avoiding responsibility. Look at Somalia. Clinton would not supply either tanks or ole spookey gunships AND he is responsbile for the deaths of the rangers and the thousands of somalis. Cmon, no one in moghadishu would have looked outside their door for fear of getting a slap in the face from a DU round if the military were allowed to run the operation!!! He was interfering in the military and this sent a message throughout the intelligence communities...one that was heard loud and clear, resulting in the predator fiasco.

They are also saying why didnt they act -- directed at BUSH and complaining about a review and creating a PLAN!!! A PLAN, they have a problem PLANNING and it taking months, only months about a structred way of making UBL irrelevant and then dead...Remember the saying FAIL TO PLAN AND YOU PLAN TO FAIL, something that should be carved in the legacy of Clinton

I would be very concerned that a government just take up office and say

President :hey, comfy chair anways...get some of those special forces on the groud..ok'
pentagon guy : 'sure we can figure out what they can do when they land, lets worry about logistics and food later'
President : okey dokey
Pentagon : i am sure it will all work out right in the end, but where will i land them?
President : mmmh, nice desk too, donno, where do you recommend, maybe somewhere (pointing at a globe in his office) hows about here?
Pentagon : 'cool...and hey how abouts launching a couple of big rocket things, they loooks way cool'
President : excellent idea, and lets get some satellites taking pictures as well, i hate planning...its sooooo 80's, dont you think??

LOOK,lets just say it:: 9/11 happended on CLINTONS watch. he was blowing up empty tents with cruise missiles becuase he didnt have a plan. thats what you do when you dont have a plan. you strike out wildly. the reality of a president is the motto : the buck stops here (except if you have Bills legal team)

did BUSH do this-- just strike out...he did not. remeber sept 12, everyone in the world was waiting for BUSH to strike out..HE DID NOT because HE HAD A PLAN, maybe unfinished, maybe rough, maybe even rushed..but can anyone tell me that he just did a strike for the sake of it...?? NO HE DID NOT, remember the sight of special forces and northern alliance. THAT IS A PLAN and one where the president orders what he needs done and then gives it to the military to complete, AS THEY SEE FIT and within the rules. That is the mark of a CEO who is excellent, you dont have to know it all , you sorround yourself with experts in their areas who do..and you make a (bleep)ing decision!

CLarke is also worried about Iraq. Okay maybe its just me, BUT perhaps when the middle east reacts to the fear of a democracy in the middle east, it is time we just faced up to it and not pretend its ok. the middle east will take 50 years to solve and Iraq in the future will be the cornerstone. AL Q know it, iran, saudi, jordan, syria all know it and thats why they want to stop it. they know a successful, wealthy democratic iraq will raise a lot of questions they dont have answers to.

dick clarke, is a man witha lot of good ideas (and i do mean that) and we should listen because we can learn (and 9/11 has taught us that), BUT the finger of responsibility also rests with him, perhaps he can give the profits of his book to the 9/11 fund for firefighters?. While Bill was exercising his libido with the intern, UBL was PLANNING...Maybe there is a message we can learn from ole tora bora head also.

rant over

IMO, before this current dog and pony show is all over, 60 Minutes, CBS and Viacom will regret hyping this loser and his fiction book.

One thing I have to admire about this pretentious loser is his ability to acknowledge that, by virtue of his position in the past two administrations, HE was in the position to develop counterterrorism strategy and PREVENT 9/11 and, yet, he did NOTHING for 8 years. Then he has the chutzpah (look it up) to blame the attack on BUSH and his administration!!!??? The very focus of his "book" screams volumes about "hit piece" and "revenge", primarily against Condi Rice because she wouldn't promote this twit to the #2 position in the DHS under Ridge.

Try to rationalize this so-called "logic" and then tell me this guy is a loyal Republican. He is so Democrat it hurts to say his traitorous name.

From everything I have seen, Clarke's book was DOA as soon as 60 Minutes hyped it. The WH truth machine has blasted so many holes in it that Swiss cheese has more substance than Clarke's book.

Backstabbers just never get a clue that the ONLY back they have stabbed is their own.

Well, that may be the key to Clarke. 'Both.' He's positioning himself for a highlevel position in a Kerry administration. Hey, if Kerry can flipflop, so can Clarke.

Now, would you want to entrust our National Security to either--Clarke or Kerry?

Scary, huh?!?

Republican members on the 9/11 commission also attacked Clarke, accusing him at the hearing of contradictory comments. "We have your book and we have your press briefing of August 2002. Which is true?" asked commission member Jim Thompson.

"Mr Thompson, you have no right to question my truthfulness! I was in Vietnam....oh wait...sorry...I was reading from the wrong set of talking points."

Condi Rice does not lie.
She makes such a good presentation,
I hope she makes the rounds on every news show.
She is articulate and sincere.

Of course the network news
won't want to interview her.
She exposes their agenda.

Clark-ie is a RACIST and a SEXIST.

To anyone who thinks this is hyperbole, try this little thought experiment:

Suppose Rice were serving in a Democrat administration, and Clarke attacked her for being an ignoramus who had "never heard of Al Qaida."

What would the race hustlers and the media be screaming? Why, that Clarke is a RACIST SEXIST REPUBLICAN, of course!

anyone watch PBS last night and they had extended comments. Lehman took pains to mention to Clarke that his book and public testimony did not match his 15 hours of private testimony. Clarke makes the lame excuse, "Nobody asked me."
