It was indeed an incredible day.... I must confess that I was quite overwhelmed by the whole mob... I am coming from Burbank and brought two teenagers that I used to nanny for...(14 & 12 )They were sooo great and love this country, can't understand the hostility...

Like I said, I was overwhelmed to tears by the anger and hatred for our country and President and so like half way through their parade while my neighbor (14 yr old girl) and I were right up against the police tape some a##hole hocked a huge loogie and spit on us...The awesome LAPD swarmed him and took him down and handcuffed him... I didn't think much but, "I love my LAPD" then an officer came up to us and asked if "we were the ones who were spit on?" I said yes he asked if we would like to press charges. I could hardly think straight and said "yeah".

Anyway, he was arrested. We are going to court to prosecute this guy, the police officer said to the officer that came and took him to jail that he would be happy to be a witness cause the "bad" guy literally spit over his shoulder to get to us.

My only regret is that all the people I know that are conservative always seem to have "more important" things to do when events like this come up. I have a hard time thinking of anything else that is more important than defending our country in these uncertain and highly emotionaly charged times. This is the time, these are the moments that define who we are as parents, individuals, humans. We must make a stand for those who are unable, the oppressed, the underdog, those in need who cannot stand for themselves. This is the legacy we must leave to our children... No one left behind, no one person is alone -there is justice for all, we all have a voice: All nations under God, Indivisble with LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!

I saw (I believe his name was Levi?) dutifully juggling a flag and the end of a the nice big professional banner that wasn't attached to a city pole all by himself. What a sweet kid.

He told me that his sister was spat upon and the perp was arrested. Later, his sister appeared. I guessed that they were 12 and 14. My goodness, they spit on her! She is just a tender young thing. I will assume (for my sanity's sake) that the act of this protester is an aberration and not a reflection upon the whole group. That is whacked.

An eye-opener for all of us, including those cool kids.

I was standing with the boy when a threesome, a young man and two women, showed up. I don't think they were older than 18. The guy said that he was on our side. He was a Marine, and he would prove it! He reached into his t-shirt and extracted his dogtags. All those within earshot thanked him for his service. He was in Hollywood visiting from Thousand Oaks and was unhappy to be confronted by ANSWER's protest.

Note to ANSWER - all your talk about "supporting the troops" apparently doesn't translate to those who serve.

As the Marine spoke, one of the girls joined in, elaborating on the er...unpleasantness of the protest and how they were happy that they found our group.

It was then that I noticed that she also wore the same kind of chain around her neck as the young man! I voiced my observation and she pulled out her tags - Marine! The third lady probably was too, but she had shifted out of my sight by then. They are due to be shipped out to Iraq soon, God bless them. I told them about our website. I do hope they'll visit.

Another flat-topped young man overheard our discussion, and chimed in that he was in the military as well and just happened to be visiting Hollywood when he was greeted by this spectacle. He was also quite young and has lost friends in Iraq.

I am glad that they ran into us before ANSWER's damage could run it's course.

Thank you for Freeping! The spitting charge may grow into something important in this current culture war. I hope you realize it's potential importance in the big struggle. That the cop is anxious to support you is also noteworthy.

Please keep Freepers informed?

Thanks for standing up for our country!

At the Fayetteville FReep (thread one and thread two), Doctor Raoul repeatedly spoke about great irony over the sound system:

"In my adult life, peace protestors have been the only people who've hit me or tried to start a fist fight."
