BRUSSELS, Belgium (Reuters) -- Poland has vowed not to pull troops out of Iraq because of "terrorist" attacks and said it was willing to remain in command of a stabilisation force there if Spain, which had been due to take over, withdrew.

But anyway ther no pure slavs. Russians for example the decendants of finno-ugorish people (ethnically brothers to hungarinas and estonians) and eastren slavs.
Ancient Rus was founded by vikings. Which created the line of russian czars till Ivan the Terrible.
That is no issue for other slavic countries.

Chekhs are mix between germans and slavs. Polacks is mix too. Many ukranians and bellorussians and jews blended in polacks. At least the name Bogdan (your name) is ukranian.
In middle ages the most of polish aristocracy was decendants of ancient russian dukes. SO one polish duke (Vishnevetskii my guess) once said that he has more rights for russian czarship then Romanovs his days ruling dinesty:) and he was right he was direct decendant of Rurik the first russian king.

You are right about Poles looking all sorts of ways (like in the US) but one thing I have noticed everytime I go to Poland is that 85-90% of the people have amazingly beautiful eyes. We take the ferry from Sweden to Poland twice (or more) a year, and I can look at lots of the folks and blonde, brunette or redheaded, you can tell lots of Poles from those danged pretty eyes.

I married one (and my daughter has these big, blinky blue eyes, too, with lashes that are so long they get tangles!)

POLAND ROCKS!!!!! Americans who feel like supporting REAL friends, check out a vaction--Poland has wonderful summer weather, is cheap and wonderful food!!! I have a great small, family type hotel I can recommend with the best food ever, great rates, totally modern conveniences, cheap beer, and wonderful atmosphere (plus one of the proprietors is and English gal and the staff mostly speak great English). Last summer, we stayed a week, ate twice a day, drank waaaaaay too much beer, and had a bill of less than $150 (plus it's in the lake district!)

God Bless those Poles! Truly the best sort of friend to have! (and they would be happy with your 'earmarked for France/Spain vacation' money!!!)

POLAND PLEDGES TO KEEP TROOPS IN IRAQ

Polish leaders insist they have no intention of withdrawing the 2,500 Polish troops in Iraq even if Spain's triumphant Socialists carry out their threat of pulling out Spain's 1,300-soldier contingent, reports Jan Cienski in Warsaw.

"Spain wants to withdraw its troops as we want to withdraw our troops, but we cannot change the stabilization mission into one of destabilization," said Aleksander Kwasniewski, the Polish president. Poland is in command of the 9,000-member multinational division controlling central Iraq. Spain was expected to take over the task later this year.

In spite of its insistence it will sit firm in Iraq, Poland is clearly uncomfortable at possibly losing one of its most stalwart European allies. Mr Kwasniewski called for an expanded role for both NATO and the United Nations in Iraq. Even if Spain does pull out, Poland has no plans to send more troops because the military does not have enough soldiers ready to deploy, Mr Kwasniewski says.
