Blame whom? (A precise damnation of Spain, Greece, and other European appeasers)

Thanks for the elegant responses. I should add that apart from French Polynesia (Tahiti and Bora Bora both belong to this administrative region - which consists of 118 islands covering sea area with the size of continental Europe), France also has two additional territories in the Pacific: New Caledonia and Wallace and Futarma. But it doesn't affect your points about European ambition had they been superpowers.

(I should add that I have been to Tahiti myself - I have observed all groups of the people welcome Americans with open arms except metro French - even the local-born French seems different. This is very different from metro France itself)

We here in Europe see a fifth possibility: America overreacts and this could fan a little terror-flame in the Muslim world into a global bonfire.

You should be so lucky that America saves your asses. As a descendant of Southern Europeans I don't think you deserve it although my heart cries for victims of the disgusting messes you have made before, during, and since all the wars that have consumed you.

But why should we be surprised at the display of gross cowardice and feeblemindedness when it concerns Islam? You Europeans have back stabbed your fellow Euros in the past. While Eastern Europe prostrated itself under the Muslim Turkish yoke, German, Italian, French, Dutch and Scandinavian business went on with the "sublime porte" enslaving and murdering millions of Christian slaves.

Bonfire? You are afraid of bonfires? The "bonfires" have burnt many times while Euros went about their business colonizing, destroying, and rapaciously murdering each other all the while ignoring their Christian roots.

Either the Europeans will rediscover their ancient glory under the Christian banner of civilization - America - or they will go the way of empires before them...quietly murmuring in the darkness of the moon.

Aaaah, exactly. You are so much more honest than any speeches from Bush prior to the war. Refreshing. And I am even willing to acknowledge possible merits of arguing for such a case - but fact remains: Those were not what Bush sold it to us.

Somehow, I seem to remember We the People being sold a false bill of goods over Serbia several years ago as well, that Europe partook of eagerly. Well when the bombing stopped and the mass graves we were promised really didn't materialize but hey, it worked so who cares?

Fast forward to the present, when we REALLY have mass graves in Iraq, prisons, and torture chambers, which tells me there was alot more justification for an Iraq war than there ever was for a Serbian war, but lets not facts get in the way of a good hypocracy-fest. Serbian war=good, Iraq war=bad. No UN authority for Serbian war=who cares? when does the bombing start? UN authority for Iraq war=but thats a lie! there was no UN authority(yes there was, France and Russian snowjob aside)

Until Europeans can rectify that logical disconnect, expect to continue to be ignored in the future. Funny but true, only Russia had the consistent policy among the Euro-skeptics.

Well when the bombing stopped and the mass graves we were promised really didn't materialize but hey, it worked so who cares?

There were mass-graves in Bosnia and events like Sebrenica, but the bombing began because of Kosovo and you are right that it was without UN and the German Defense Minister spread PR-inventions like that Serbs use a "Fetusgrill" and similar, which later turned out to be false. We were lied to there go push us into a speedy assistance

Perhaps Kosovo was one of the reasons why Europe was so much more sceptical on the promised existance of WMDs in Iraq.
