The VVAW was not a fraternal, American Legion kind of organization by any means. ANSWER and MOVEON.ORG are Girl Scouts, compared to the VVAW. The were militant and they were violent.

This is just a smidgen of what must be out there under FOIA and declassified FBI reports. Gary Aldrich has encouraged Kerry to come clean-the voters will have to wait until it's 32 degrees in Hell for that to happen.

"Final Report of the Select Committee to Study government Operations With Respect to Intelligence Activities, " US Senate, April 23, 1976

"During the Vietnam War, investigations of individuals labeled "Key Activists" were conducted under Section 87, in which informant coverage was stressed."
" For example, in January 1968, instructions went out to ten major field offices to designate certain persons as "Key Activists."
" They were defined as "individuals in the Students for a Democratic Society and the anti-Vietnam war groups [who] are extremely active and most vocal in their statements denouncing the United States and calling for civil disobedience and other forms of unlawful and disruptive acts."

"Because of their leadership and prominence in the "new left" movement, as well as the GROWING MILITANCY of this movement, each office must maintain high-level informant coverage on these individuals so that the Bureau is kept abreast of their day-to-day activities as well as the organizations they are affiliated with, to develop information r egarding their sources of funds, foreign contacts, and future plans."

"In August 1971, a full investigation of the VVAW was opened on the basis of reports that Communist youth groups were infiltrating the VVAW and the alleged involvement of some VVAW members in illegal demonstrations;"
"militant antiwar activity by the VVAW, including reported links with foreign elements, was also a basis for the full investigation."
"33 FBI concern centered on the national office of the VVAW, which the FBI saw as adopting Marxist-Leninist doctrine and anti-imperialist positions."

Right you are. Bear in mind that during the last four months of 1971 alone, 500 VVAW members were arrested.

To give you some idea of how far left they were, not only had the VVAW sent several delegations to Paris in 1971 to "negotiate" with the Vietcong and NVM representatives, but Al Hubbard even went to Hanoi--before Jane Fonda did.

Hubbard was also awarded a prize from the USSR, which he accepted. (The name escapes me for the moment.)

The VVAW still is militant and violent. Check out their website: http://www.vvaw.org/
