This has been covered in the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, among others, so its not being totally ignored by the mainstream media, but the left-leaning outlets have had little or nothing to say about it.

I disagree that it always hurts for there to be opposition to these campaign ads. What happens, oftentimes, is the ads are shown on the cable news shows over and over so everyone can see the "controversy". It was the same as when the Dems complained about Bush landing on the carrier. He kept being shown repeatedly making that landing, looking presidential and in charge. I think when the complaints are really preposterous and silly, most people see through them and the net effect is a lot of free advertising for the president.
