Sorry, but it's not those "signed up as unemployed" who are causing anxiety; but rather those who have been looking for work for so long they have given up. The anxiety felt by many American workers will not be so easily dispelled.

Many of those whom you say "have been looking for work for so long they have given up" now have their own business.
IMO, most Americans are harder working and smarter than the media, politicians, liberals, terrorists, the french and some here on FR believe.

If there are no jobs in a particular area, the job-seeker must go to where there are jobs. My area of Wisconsin has the lowest umemployment rate in the state at under four percent. But the local rag magnified a story about some poor guy who died of heart failure while looking for work. His father said he (his son) was depressed because he couldn't find a job. This despite the exceptionally low unemployment rate. My question is where was he looking? Jobs won't come to people, people have to go where the jobs are.

The Administration is missing the boat. Unemployment is down because people will survive; if they have to work three McJobs to do it, they'll keep food on the table for their kids. But the "unemployment" figure say absolutely NOTHING about the type of jobs or quality of jobs.
