Mt Sister-in-laws dad who was a Marine in the Korean War emailed this article to me.

Good piece, except where he lambasts Swifts. Bassac and Mekong were no picnic.

They personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable
telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blew up bodies,
randomly shot at civilians, razed villages, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food
stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Viet Nam. There's a h-u-g-e misunderstanding here. Kerry was referring to Republicans.

The disclaimer that those who didn't serve in Vietnam somehow have no right to criticize Kerry is absurd.
The Vietnam War, properly conceived, was a battle in the Cold War, a battle which, despite the valiant service of Kerry and others, America and the free world lost because of the moral obtuseness and lack of will of Kerry and others. Kerry lied to denigrate the service of his fellow soldiers and provide a purported justification for abandoning the effort to save Vietnam from the Communist yoke, parroting Soviet agitprop in his Congressional testimony. Worse, he subsequently in congressional votes and public statements opposed measure upon measure which contributed to our ultimate victory in the cause for which he had fought: the collapse of Soviet Communism.
