Massachusetts recorded nearly 900,000 Bush votes in 2000 and I was one of them. The state's not entirely bad and shouldn't be written off. We've had a Republican governor here since 1990. We suffer here mainly because the GOP writes us off for the most part and that's a shame.

Another interesting thing is that this poll showed the Democrats absolutely crushing the Republicans in the Governor's race. Ah, but that was against Judy, and she will not be on the ballot.
Another potential Republican candidate for governor, Secretary of State Bob Brown ran neck-and-neck with Schweitzer in another test run for governor in the poll. The results show Brown at 40 percent and Schweitzer at 38 percent, with 22 percent undecided. Because the margin is less than the 4 percentage point margin of error, the poll says the two candidates are about even.
And that's where it stands even now, most likely. A Mason-Dixon poll in December had it 42-39 Schweitzer-Brown.

In Montana, Carter in 1976 and Dukakis in 1988 came close. Clearly, the state has trended away from the 'Rats since then. Speaking of Dukakis, he won Massachusetts by only 54% to 46% in 1988. His home-staters had grown tired of him by then. Any chance of similar Kerry-fatigue this year?
To: Clintonfatigued
Carter lost Montana by 7 and Dukakis lost it by 6. I do not know if I would call those particularly close; I tend to consider within 5 to be a contested state. So I guess that means I think it was close to being contested those times (but not quite).
Clinton came close to winning it in his re-election campaign, but again was relying on Perot taking 14%.
