But Hamdi was never naturalized. He's a "born" citizen.
It seems to me that the law of naturalization isn't what's at issue here, since that refers to prospective citizens only. Rather, it's the law of jurisdiction - whether Hamdi's "subject to the jurisdiction" of the United States. Since you're saying he is a citizen, then he must be subject to our jurisdiction, and I would think would always be until he makes an official declaration renouncing it.
