Putin banned abortion in Russia.Would that we had done the same here years ago.
How many millions of taxpayers were taken out of this country's future by yielding to societal pressures?
And how much more are we diminished as a "moral" nation because of all the unborn who never had a chance to vote or contribute tho' they were so close to being born.

Russians have a history of expansionism (forced). Russia in Siberia just like America in the West and South? America was expanding the same time Russia was. Without communisim as a world altering force what do you care? Russia will reclaim Alaska? What do you fear? Living in the Cold War past?

What most American can not understand is that there is two issues involved...Soviet State, as in entity of sovereignty and territory (read old Russian Empire) of which 80%+ population vote in referendum not to destroy but new leaders want own kingdoms and create disaster of 90's which spark massive theft, wars, drop in standard of life and pain....and Soviet Political/Economic system.
As Putin said: "Any who do not lament the fall of the Soviet Union (implied state) has no soul. Any who wish the return of the Communism (soviet political/economic system) has no brain."

Russia is much more capitalist then US now and much more Christian...with Christian education in school and ban on abortion after 12 weeks...soon enough on all abortion, where US can not ban even birthing abotions....which is autrocity of autrocities.

Why Soviet Bloc? Russia is natural empire, Empire of Great Russ exist in one form or other for 1,500 years, Soviet Bastards exist for 70 years....why not Russian empire which much more ingrain come back? And it will.

Not surprising. KGB thug, control freak, corrupt to the core. The guy's a commie through and through -- always has been, always will be. Yes, he spend country into deficit, bring in 10 million socialist, expand government growth more then any in 50 years, more regulation, more centralized intelligent control of peoples life, citizens in military jail without accusation, no control of border....oh wait, that is US conservative...
But Putin put down 13% flat tax, ban abortion after 12 week, Christian history/culture taught in school, kill sales tax, balance budget with huge (by Russian economy) surplus invested for future recession and pay off over half country debt, slash vat tax, implement trial by jury and proper property right, and go after corrupt oligarch (who oddly find assylum in West countries...hmmm.....but that is all Soviet aspects, right?

Ahh, back from clearing out communists from under your bed? Or were you on safari with friend Berezovsky, who you claim to support?
To: BrucefromMtVernon
Abortion is illegal after 12 week and births jump from 1.2 to 1.9 this year and still on rise...Russia is at level or US and next year above...US only grow because mass Mexican and Arab influx.
To: RussianConservative

"The breakup of the Soviet Union is a national tragedy on an enormous scale from which only the elites and nationalists of the republics gained,"
And.....
"I think that ordinary citizens of the former Soviet Union and the post-Soviet space gained nothing from this."

Screw attention. Are goons beating down doors in the middle of the night and hauling people off to dudgeons and exiling them to slave labor camps to freeze or starve? You think that's worth it to get publicity? If so, you are one sick dude.

For some Cold War gave only meaning to life...US good guy no matter what is done, and all problems of home pale to comparison of what is happening on world stage...now all dirty laundry that hang invisible is not and is in the glare of light. Ohh...for the good old days for these types.
To: JasonC
Uh, just what the heck is your problem? You obviously missed the point of what I was saying and instead decided to open your mouth and spout out hot air.
To: Mr. Mojo
So you saying that two statements not true?
To: RussianConservative
I'm saying that he appears to be lameting the demise of the Soviet Union. Needless to say, if that's the case, I certainly don't share his sentiments.

Putin quotes...
"Anyone who doesn't regret the passing of the Soviet Union has no heart. Anyone who wants it restored has no brains."
"History proves that all dictatorships, all authoritarian forms of government are transient. Only democratic systems are not transient. Whatever the shortcomings, mankind has not devised anything superior."
Most of the people posting here watch CNN too much instead of trying to figure things out for themselves. The great majority of them have never even been to Russia, but feel obliged to put down the country and her people at every opportunity. Must be the public school syndrome rearing it's ugly head again.

How exactly does objecting to a few quotes from
one guy (Putin) translate in your head to "putting down the country and her people at every opportunity."
I like Russia and Russians (the ones I've met anyway), and I'm thrilled that they threw off the chains of communism. And if Putin supported us in Iraq and would cool it with the nationalist/nostalgic rhetoric, I'd like him better as well.
