Nowadays, "C-17s and Strykers can go directly into the hot zone," Sullivan said.

It all depends on what the definition of "hot" is. If DHL and Air Force One can go to Baghdad they might risk their precious birds there. I rather doubt C-17s will be landing anywhere that gets incoming regularly.

One of the reasons they wanted Strykers to fit in C-130's was because C-130's are expendable.
