FARC is a communist narco-terrorist organization of the first order.

From CNN:
U.S and Colombian officials estimate the FARC brings in hundreds of millions of dollars a year from drug money. As much as 54 percent of the FARC's funds may come from drugs, according to Jane's Intelligence Review of June 2000, and 36 percent from other criminal activities such as kidnapping and extortion.

A recent TIME magazine article estimated the FARC's drug take at $700 million annually. A report prepared by the U.S. Congress says, however, the take may be as low as $30 million.

One of the reasons FARC is seeking foreign adventures is that Colombia is really hitting them hard, finally, after years of almost giving the country away (the guns should also read, "Thanks Bill Clinton").

Mary Anastasia O'Grady had a very good column in the WSJ yesterday about how the (inevitably left-wing) NGOs are contributing to this situation by doing things like slanting their data or wilfully misinterpreting it, so that international agencies and other countries will be discouraged from helping the Colombian government. This is true throughout Latin America, where we have the violence of the guerrilla groups on one hand, and on the other, the intellectual duplicity and manipulation of the NGOs providing support and cover for the violence.

Their goal is complete Communist domination of Latin America.
