SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.
The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Probably about the size of a cigarette. If it's from the 1950's is might not even explode. Used to be common in rural area's. Farmers used blasting caps/explosives to blow up tree stumps, etc. My husband used them quite a bit 15 years ago. To buy that kind of stuff today you need an explosives permit (background check, etc.). I don't think I'd worry about this one.

I am in agreeance with Calpernia the cabal. You have made good contributions to this thread. There are some posts here that I don't agree with and wonder about. And some of my posts I am sure some wonder why I am even posting them to this thread. Don't leave. Stick it out.

Thank you for your information...with Haz-Mat, and closing highways...it sounded like something that would be much bigger...I guess they were erring on the safe side.

(Major Brian Reed said he responded to Saddam: "President Bush sends his regards.")
So, can we ALL stop the personal attacks? I see posts I don't agree with quite often; but I don't find the need to attack anyone's credibility and then laugh about it. I've made posts others don't agree with. It is called a different perspective.
And you know what? Since we all have different perspectives, that actually has shed light to situations that were there...and no one saw.
Now if you all don't stop this nonesense, I will feed you to my dragon.

Norway Frees Founder of Suspected Group By DOUG MELLGREN, Associated Press Writer
OSLO, Norway, Norway - Police released the founder of suspected Iraqi terror group Ansar al-Islam late Tuesday as Norwegian media reported that rival Kurds had forced some witnesses to testify against him.
Mullah Krekar, a refugee in Norway since fleeing Saddam Hussein's regime in 1991, was arrested at his home in Oslo on Jan. 2 and ordered held for investigation of a variety of charges, including conspiracy in the attempted murders of political rivals in northern Iraq.
On Tuesday, Krekar, smiling and carrying his belongings in a white plastic bag, walked out of jail.
"Jail is not good, but the people were good. And I was busy with books," he said before being whisked away.
Ansar al-Islam, a group of Kurds in northern Iraq, is considered a terrorist organization by the United Nations (news - web sites) and the United States, which claims it has links to al-Qaida. The group had 600 fighters in northern Iraq before being bombed by U.S. forces and overrun by rival Kurdish militias.
"There has been new information in the past few days that results in us not finding grounds to hold him longer," Einar Hoegetveit, the head of the Norwegian economic crime police, said in a telephone interview. The economic crime police started the investigation into Krekar based on possible financing of terrorism.
Hoegetveit would not say what the information was, whether any or all charges against the Kurdish leader would be dropped, or if the investigation was continuing.
"This just happened this evening," he said. "Whatever happens now will take a few days to decide."
Defense lawyer Arvid Sjoedin told the Norwegian news agency NTB that he understood Norwegian police had re-questioned Kurdish witnesses when not supervised by the rival Kurds of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The witnesses claimed to have been tortured into making claims against Krekar, he said.
Another defense attorney, Brynar Meling, said police had released Krekar without a court order.
Chief prosecutor Erling Grimstad declined to comment Tuesday night.
Krekar has repeatedly denied that Ansar al-Islam has links to the al-Qaida terror network. Ansar al-Islam is suspected of training, and possibly deploying, suicide bombers against U.S. forces in Iraq.
Krekar has also said he no longer leads the group, but the Oslo district court said Feb. 2 it suspected he still played a key role. It granted police the right to hold him until March 1.
Norwegian immigration authorities are seeking to revoke Krekar's refugee status, saying he violated the terms of his sanctuary by repeatedly returning to Iraq, the country he fled when seeking asylum.
Krekar, born Najm al-Din Faraj Ahmad, was arrested at the airport outside Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Sept. 12, 2002, after Iran denied him entry and sent him back to Europe. He was deported to Norway in January 2003 and was interrogated by a host of intelligence services in both countries.

It did sound like a lot (closing highways, HAZ MAT, etc.) for a blasting cap, but, I agree with you. I would rather they err on the side of caution (just my opinion).

Thanks for keeping up with all of that
It's my pleasure.
My small contribution to the collective effort
I even forced myself to learn a weeee bit of html so it would read easier :)
I'm not going to post whether a particular scare is a hoax or not, but will post the relevant links when results on a particular story are available.
I'll report, you decide
I will, from time to time, make comments on trends I see, like now :)
There are a couple of things that stick out to me in all of these scares.
1.)They occur in groups, several concurrently in a community and over several days. Of the multiple occurrences, usually one is never identified and given the "common household product" label. The others will be identified specifically.
2.)Ashes mixed with sand that causes irritation of the skin
3.)A mailing address of Geneva, Switzerland or Brussels, Belgium.
4.)Some have been linked with suspicious people dropping them off and at least one has "burst" open.

I'm afraid the Khan situation, as well as the Pakistan situation, is going to get more "interesting" as time goes by. I worry that we have only scratched the surface.
