The story seems to be ignoring the probability that somebody is in big trouble for disposing of crude oil down a "salt water disposal" line.

No, oil in the saltwater happens and there are provisions in the RRC (Railroad Commission) regulations to cover it.

The salvaged oil is skimmed off the holding pits and is used as "road oil." It is mixed with the dirt in dirt roads to waterproof them and the roads will last longer without becoming mud holes. This is a common thing in East Texas. Lots of oil roads and private drive.

Mrs. LeTourneau's home will probably have to be replaced.
