Check it out, next time you're driving on the interstate. You have to be less than a car-length away before you can tell gender (assuming an obvious hair difference), let alone skin color. The cops put their sirens on long before they could know who they're chasing.

I'd comment, but further study is needed. An ongoing, well funded study of course!

The study used citizen self-reported data. Which means the study itself is dependent upon the biases of the people reporting "data" from their subjective point of view. Entire racist police forces? Yeah, right.

I was in a car (sports car) driven by a young black guy when a cop tried to pass us, slowed down and came up behind us. The driver said "We are getting pulled". Sure enough, we got pulled. No cause. The cop walked up, started to talk and noticed two white guys in the cramped back seat. He then excused himself "wrong car" and left.
This was in the early 90's. I was always so surprised that black guys got pulled but never got tickets. White guys always got tickets.

Buy it. Read it. Memorize it. This lady does an excellent job destroying many liberal myths about the police. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/156663489X/qid=1075987217//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-8289466-1264860?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

My observations are purely subjective, of course, but it seems to me that locally, black drivers tend to be more aggressive... not necessarily reckless, but they'll push the envelope more... less distance between them and the car ahead, try to get through the amber, rapid lane switching, that sort of thing.
I don't know whether this is because of better reflexes, cultural differences, or my own prejudices skew my observations.

I recently received a speeding ticket, although I was driving the same speed as everyone else. In fact, I was in the back of the pack. I was ticketed by a black officer. This is no doubt a case of "driving while white". (/sarcasm)
To: kattracks
When I got home from work yesterday, three deputies had arrested a Black man and woman in front of my driveway driving under the influence of drugs and driving an auto with improper equipment, lights out, no muffler (it was dragging) and no seatbelts, revoked DL, no insurance. It took three officers to apprehend them because they started cursing the first officer and became beligerant because THEY were stopped.
I'm supposed to "feel sorry" for idiots endangering other motorists when they yell "racism" for doing such stupidity? They deserved far more than what they got.

Put another way, the number of people who *thought* they were stopped for "driving while black" exceeded the number of people who *thought* they were stopped for "driving while white".
How many people on this board have ever thought that the reason they were stopped is because they were white?
The bottom line is that if a person is expecting to see racism, they will see it. If not, they probably won't. This is not to say that overt racism doesn't exist, it's just to say that every time someone thinks they are a victim of racism it ain't necessarily so.

Aw, who cares if it's a myth? Charges of "racism!" and "racial profiling!"
work. They win arguments. They extract settlements. They hobble police enforcement of the law. They make money for "civil rights" lawyers and academicians. They get media coverage and votes for politicians.
So WHO CARES if it's not true? Who the hell in this society lies by truth anymore, instead of by politically correct myths? Who can afford to???
