I learned how to raise, lower, and fold a flag when I was in the Girl Scouts.
Nowadays, Girl Scouts learn about where to get abortions instead.
So I'm inclined to cut him some slack too. Except that it's been three days, he'd better hurry up with the apology.
Precisely.
Here's another example: in the aftermath of 9/11, car flags were popular. However, most of the car flags were of relatively poor quality, so by October or November, they got pretty ragged. My sister, an AF ROTC student at the time, took offense as she noticed these ragged flags. I saw something different: a wounded nation proud of its heritage. The thought behind placing those flags on our cars indicated something: a love for this country. If a faux pas was committed by flying a ragged one, well, it's the thought that counts. The spirit behind the gesture is more important than the signs of respect.
Same here with Kid Rock. Now, I can't stand his brand of rap. But at the same time, I gotta respect a guy who, as a previous poster said, made clear his support for the guys whose lives are on the line every day. He's got a right to the benifit of the doubt. He's earned it. It's not like this is some peacenik protesting the war draping himself in an american flag. It's a guy saying, "hey, I'm american and proud of it...." It's a guy who realizes the cost of that symbol, and he intends no desecration.
It was a poorly-executed gesture, but one that was likely well-intentioned.
I keep hoping the same thing. He did a tour of Iraq with the USO during the hottest part of the summer. He performed in 130 degree heat in a BIAP hangar. I don't think that he even realized that wearing the flag like that was wrong. Time was people were taught flag etiquette in school but those days are gone.
That's pretty cool! Ja Rule also was here in New York saying farewell to troops going to Iraq.
No, he's not (Hank's son is Hank Williams III), but Kid Rock is a big fan of Hank Jr. and has performed with him.
Good idea. Bye!
