Good point...the violence and other negatives associated with prostitution tend not to exist where it is legal.

Make something that has an inelastic demand illegal, and it will be supplied by - criminals, with all the attendant fun they bring.

As far as prostitution itself goes, no society or nation or law in history has ever TRULY eliminated it. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to quit trying and acknowledge reality.

Besides, assuming that the transaction is one betwixt two willing adults, and that it is within the bounds of local decency, no logical reason exists to ban it, even if such a ban worked.

Every so often the police in Reno have street sweeps, getting the hookers off. A lot of these girls have diseases of one kind or another from reports in the newspapers. The judges are real tough on the ones who have AIDS, they send them off to prison for attempted murder.

I think the women who work in the cat houses have to get tested every week or so. I don't know much about it except for what's been published in the local Democratic rag.

That's not entirely true. It is true of the prostitutes in brothels in Nevada. However, Nevada still has the same problems as everyone else with street prostitutes, underage prostitutes, pimps, drugs, etc. Ditto the Netherlands and other places where prostitution is "legal". In short there is no evidence to support that legal prostitution eliminates the problems traditionally associated with prostitution. It does make the lives of SOME prostitutes safer.
