The NEA is a fund which gives grants to various arts.

Conseravtives (such amy myself) have hated it in the past because money from it has gone to fund perverted art.

But, if it goes to fund patriotic art- what's wrong with that? A good use of money, so far as I'm concerned.

Wouldn't you rather keep your own money and buy or create your own patriotic art with it? Government has no business doing this.

And the apologists just keep posting the mantra over and over and over again.

Welcome to the RNC edition of FreeRepublic. The vast middle conspiracy.

"But, if it goes to fund patriotic art- what's wrong with that? A good use of money, so far as I'm concerned."

Because there's A) No constitutional authroity for it and B) it's our damn money and C) if somebody wants to buy patriotic art, they should pay for it out of their pocket, not mine.

But I guess we should be glad, who else are we going to vote for, huh? I guess the apologists will just continue that mantra until a real rino like guiliani is nominated in 2008, and we should all shut up and be happy about it because, after all, the guy has an (R) next to his name.

Welcome to Free Republic. Conservatives -- as you claim to be -- generally have a problem with socialism in any form. Patriotic art is in the eye of the beholder. Hitler was a great supporter of "patriotic" German art. Better to let artists find their own funding independent from government.

Did Toby Keith need a paycheck from Uncle Sam to write his music?

What kind of conservative are you that you think it's okay to steal my taxpayer money for something the market provides anyway? Sounds like you may be looking at the wrong party...

Don't use the government to stick a gun in our face and confiscate our property for something that YOU think is "a good use of money". That's immoral.

If you think it's "a good use of money" use YOUR own money.

No. You cannot use the one ring to fight the enemy. It must be destroyed. A great president once said that government is not the solution to our problems--it is the problem.

As a fellow Conservative, I am interested in your Constitutional basis for funding "the arts" as a "good use of money". Just curious.

What makes you think it's "to fund patriotic art?" There's no reason whatsoever to believe it's something like that. In fact, the odds of it being such are about a gazillion to one. It will be exactly what it already is.

And BTW, what would you say are some of Bush's bad ideas?

You are not a conservative, you are a Bush supporter. No true conservative would support the federal government spending taxpayer's money on art of any kind.
