Actually, I live in a lake community that was built in the late 40s. My house is a post and beam construction that is wood siding, and wood paneling. Between is now about 3 inches of some grey insulation stuff. The windows however are wood casements. You can look thru them and see daylight. We use that 3M window film, and it makes a HUGE difference, still though, this cottage was never meant as a winter home. As to where I am in NJ, this is the first or seconed coldest spot and the highest spot where houses have been built. It literally is 7-12 degrees colder here than where I work in southern Bergen county.
Considering my primary heat source is FIREWOOD, extra wonton paper strikes me as an upgrade. HEHE.
