If the Republicans loose enough votes to a third party to loose the presidency, maybe that will be the slap in the face they need to stop dissing their base. If one of the Dems wins, they will be neutered by the strengthened and even more conservative house and senate. IMHO.

maybe that will be the slap in the face they need to stop dissing their base. The "base" has been slapping the face of the GOP ever since 1992. The GOP is finished turning the other cheek. So, go find your 3rd party again.

I've thought this before, looking back fondly at what Gingrich accomplished.
But the problem is, we can't count on the Dims being that stupid twice. They might actually have learned to avoid doing stupid things that rile us up. And in '94, it was the AWB and the gunowners' turnout that really made the difference.
