What You Don’t Know About John Kerry Here are facts and quotations that reveal the character of the new Democrat leader.
He became a celebrated organizer for one of America's most extreme appeasement groups, Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He consorted with the likes of “Hanoi” Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark, Lyndon Johnson’s radical former attorney general. He attended a seminar bankrolled by Fonda in Detroit in February 1971. Watching 125 self-proclaimed Vietnam veterans testify at a Howard Johnson’s about atrocities allegedly committed by U.S. forces, the man who would be president later said he found the accounts shocking and irrefutable. Dubbed “The Winter Soldier Investigation,” the protest attracted minimal media attention, according to the Los Angeles Times, because Fonda insisted it be held in the remote Michigan city rather than the less “authentic” Washington, D.C. Still, the event gave Kerry an idea for a protest that was sure to be a media smash, and he immediately set out to organize one of the most confrontational protests of the war. Operation Dewey Canyon III began on April 18, 1971, when nearly 1,000 Vietnam veterans and people claiming to be veterans gathered on Washington’s Mall for what they called “a limited incursion into the country of Congress.” The group staged mock firefights on the steps of the Capitol and Supreme Court and defied U.S. Park Police after the Department of Justice issued an injunction barring it from camping on the Mall.
U.S. Veteran Dispatch noted in 1996: “Kerry's testimony, it should be noted, occurred while some of his fellow Vietnam veterans were known by the world to be enduring terrible suffering as prisoners of war in North Vietnamese prisons. Kerry was a supporter of the ‘People's Peace Treaty,’" a supposed ‘people's’ declaration to end the war, reportedly drawn up in communist East Germany. It included nine points, all of which were taken from Viet Cong peace proposals at the Paris peace talks as conditions for ending the war.”
Kerry later admitted the medals he threw were not his. To this day they hang on the wall of his office.
“By frequently participating in VVAW’s demonstrations, Kerry found himself marching alongside what the Boston Herald Traveler identified as ‘revolutionary Communists.’ While noting that known Reds had openly organized these events, the December 12, 1971 Herald Traveler reported the presence of an ‘abundance of Vietcong flags, clenched fists raised in the air, and placards plainly bearing legends in support of China, Cuba, the USSR, North Korea and the Hanoi government.’" Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry says: “As a national leader of VVAW, Kerry campaigned against the effort of the United States to contain the spread of Communism. He used the blood of servicemen still in the field for his own political advancement by claiming that their blood was being shed unnecessarily or in vain. “Under Kerry's leadership, VVAW members mocked the uniform of United States soldiers by wearing tattered fatigues marked with pro-communist graffiti. They dishonored America by marching in demonstrations under the flag of the Viet Cong enemy.” Sen. John McCain revealed that his North Vietnamese captors had used reports of Kerry-led protests to taunt him and his fellow prisoners. Retired General George S. Patton III angrily noted that Kerry’s actions had “given aid and comfort to the enemy.” In recent years when Kerry has exploited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for photo opportunities on Veterans Day, some veterans, still outraged by his betrayal, have turned their backs on him.
“Suddenly, copies of the book became unavailable and even disappeared from libraries. But the Lowell (Mass.) Sun said of the type of person shown on its cover: ‘These people spit on the flag, they burn the flag, they carry the flag upside down, [and] they all but wipe their noses with it in their efforts to show their contempt for everything it still stands for,’” the New American reported. Even today it is hard to find this infamous photo and book.
As chairman of the Select Senate Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, created in 1991 to investigate reports that U.S. prisoners of war and soldiers designated missing in action were still alive in Vietnam, Kerry badgered the panel into voting that no American servicemen remained in Vietnam. “[N]o one in the United States Senate pushed harder to bury the POW/MIA issue, the last obstacle preventing normalization of relations with Hanoi, than John Forbes Kerry,” noted U.S. Veteran Dispatch. “But Kerry's participation in the Committee became controversial in December 1992,” reported the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity, “when Hanoi announced that it had awarded Colliers International, a Boston-based real estate company, an exclusive deal to develop its commercial real estate potentially worth billions. Stuart Forbes, the CEO of Colliers, is Kerry's cousin.” The “odd coincidence,” according to FrontPageMagazine.com, involved a deal worth $905 million. Jeff Jacoby, the token conservative columnist at the Boston Globe, notes that Kerry continues his apologia for Vietnam's never-ending atrocities. "Far from taking the lead on the Vietnam Human Rights Bill, he has prevented it from coming to a vote. He claims that making an issue of Hanoi's repression would be counterproductive."
Kerry is also a fan of China’s communist dictatorship. “On May 19, 1994, five years after Tiananmen Square, Kerry spoke on the Senate floor against linking China's Most Favored Nation trade status to its human rights record,” Slate reported. Kerry said: “China is the strongest military power in Asia. We need China's cooperation. We cannot afford to adopt a cold-war kind of policy that merely excludes and pushes China away.” Limiting China's MFN status “would make us a bit player in a production of enormous proportions. We possess no stick, including MFN, which can force China to embrace internationally recognized human rights and freedoms.”
According to American Conservative Union, Kerry has a lifetime rating of 6 percent, compared to 13 for the demolished Rep. Dick Gephardt, 14 for Sen. John Edwards, 15 for Kucinich and 19 for Sen. Joe Lieberman. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Tom Daschle score 13 percent. Only the likes of Sens. Teddy Kennedy and Barbara Boxer have more left-wing records than Kerry. In contrast, Sen. John Breaux, one of the upper chamber’s few remaining moderate Democrats, has a 46.
However, although Kerry spouts the party line on anti-U.S. ecopolicy, he doesn’t like to practice what he preaches. Kerry was humiliated in April 2002 when photographed attending a rally against energy independence and then heading back to his SUV, the symbol of all that is evil to greens.
On “Meet the Press” in late August, Tim Russert played a tape of Kerry addressing the Senate in October 2002 with a hard-line speech declaring Iraq “capable of quickly producing weaponizing” of biological weapons that could be delivered against “the United States itself.” Kerry insisted: “That is exactly the point I’m making. We were given this information by our intelligence community.” However, as columnist Robert Novak noted, “as a senator, Kerry had access to the National Intelligence Estimate that was skeptical of Iraqi capability. Being tricky may no longer be as effective politically as it once was.” No doubt Dean, Lieberman, Clark and other rivals will now use these and other details to do to Kerry what the Democrats did to Dean.

"The New War: The Web of Crime That Threatens America's Security" by Sen. John Kerry (Simon & Schuster)
Sen. John Kerry, who was assistant district attorney of Middlesex County way back when, casts a much larger net in "The New War."
Kerry, former chairman and, until recently, ranking Democrat on the Senate Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations, warns that while Americans obsess about street crime and random violence, we overlook the far greater threat posed by global criminals and terrorists.
Kerry identifies the Big Five of international criminals: the Italian Mafia, Russian Mafiya, the Japanese yakuza, the Chinese triads and the Colombian cartels. And there are smaller but still dangerous players around the world, including Mexico and Nigeria.
What has changed in recent years, Kerry asserts, is that crime has gone global. The mobs are more organized, violent and powerful than ever, and they often work together.
The global mobs are mixed up in drug smuggling, immigration scams, computer theft and much more. Chemical and biological terrorism are potential threats, and nuclear terrorism is not unthinkable.
According to Kerry's thesis, we are engaged in nothing less than war with global criminals.
"Global crime," he writes, "poses not one but a phalanx of threats to our national security - by eroding confidence, poisoning honesty, depleting revenue; by mocking borders, currencies, passports; and worst of all, by continually succeeding."
What's needed to stop global criminals, Kerry argues, is global cooperation, "a revolution in the way we conceive of every aspect of the law, from jurisdiction to punishment."
That will require sacrifice by everyone. While no nation should give up sovereignty, he believes, we must find ways to establish consistent laws and a consistent system of punishment. We might have to give up a little privacy, for example, to avert anarchy on the Internet.
Beating the global criminals won't be easy and it won't be cheap. Kerry says we can't do it alone but maintains only America has the power and prestige to lead the way.
The most serious task is fighting and winning the war on drugs at home, he asserts. His recommendations, alas, sound familiar: more money for treatment, education, after-hours school programs and early intervention programs.
Losing the war to the global criminals is not a pretty prospect. What's at stake, according to Kerry, "is nothing less than the fate of civilization."

Rep. Joseph Kennedy is not alone. Sen. JOHN KERRY has applied to the Archdiocese of Washington for an annulment of his marriage to Julia Thorne. (They split in 1988; Kerry later remarried.)
Thorne has written the archdiocese opposing Kerry's petition; she says it demeans their relationship and their two children. And she has written a blurb for "Shattered Faith," in which Sheila Rauch Kennedy blasts the church's annulment policy.

Hydrant removal gets Heinz out of parking pickle
We don't know about you, but the Track is going to rest easier tonight knowing that Sen. John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz, will soon be able to park the Picklemobile right smack in front of their door at 19 Louisburg Square.
Because that pesky fire hydrant - which fueled a flurry of bad press for the ketchup heiress last year when she was bagged blocking it with her white Jeep Cherokee - is being relocated around the corner to Pinckney Street.
The Boston Fire Department confirmed yesterday that a request for the hydrant relocation came in from the Heinz-Kerrys less than a week ago.
"The chief went up there himself and didn't see any problem with moving it," said a BFD spokesman.
Talk about prompt service! Quick as you could say "the slooooooow ketchup," the jaw-clenching racket of jackhammers began blasting through Louisburg Square.
Of course Mrs. Heinz was not in residence at the time.
Kerry's people say the senator and the missus figured that the city could easily move the black-and-white hydrant around the corner since the sewer rats were in the neighborhood fixing a hinky sewer connection across the street on Pinckney.
And besides, the hydrant - which caused such painful parking problems for Teresa's HJ 57 - is such an eyesore!
No word on the ketchup queen's take on the dozen orange-and-white construction barrels lined up and down Pinckney.
And - may we add - taking up precious parking spaces!
"Now they'll be able to park directly in front of the door without complaints from neighbors," sniffed one fired-up Square-ite.
Kerry's spokesman, Michael Meehan, told the Track the removal of the funky-looking fireplug - not to mention the earlier relocation of a grating Boston Edison grate - would improve the $3 million manse's "pictorial environment."
"At least the photos will look better," he joked.
We relish the thought!
During the period from 1979-1985 quite a number of leftist politicians in the USA were active fund-raisers, supporters and apologistas- PERIQUACO's- for the Sandinistas.
I am curious if Kerry was a member of this leftist group.

Word from Louisburg Square is that Sen. John Kerry and Teresa Heinz led a pre-emptive strike the other night and got word to a neighborhood meeting that they would abide by the two parking-space limit.
Wonders never cease . . .
The Square-ites, steamed about the Kerry-Heinz's piggy parking practice of cramming cars into four spaces, sat down the other night to sound off about their neighbors.
But, before anyone could grouse about the haughty Heinz-Kerrys, an F.O.K. piped up saying that the residents of No. 19 would bow to pressure and only use the Square's customary - but not mandated - two-car parking allowance.
Which is the least they could do considering the couple's Fire Plug Relocation Project (also known as Little Dig) and repairs on a hinky sewer line have wreaked havoc on the elite enclave for weeks. We think Miss Manners would agree.
Kerry's spin on the meeting was that it was called "to deal with a parking issue at the opposite end of the Square."
"It was related to the two condos down there," said the senator's spokesman, Michael Meehan.
Hmmmm . . .
But we hear what really got the neighbors fired up was that Kerry had been heard joking that since he and Teresa had that pesky fire hydrant removed from in front of their palatial pad, they now had five spaces. Ha. Ha.
Just call them the Beacon Hill Pills!

I actually was at that rally, as a child and not as a supporter or participant or anything like that. It was a beautiful, warm spring weekend and the protestors were camped all around the Washington Monument. They had the usual veterans burning their medals and raggedy looking bum/protestors everywhere. It gave me an idea of the strength and the limitations of protests, Kerry and his gang really took over the mall area, but then again, outside the downtown area, you would never have known they were there.
