State of the Union: In jeopardy
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | Tuesday, January 20, 2004 | editorial

"The message of the president, by whatever motives it may have been dictated, is a performance which ought to alarm all who are anxious for the safety of our government, for the respectability and welfare of our nation. It makes, or aims at making, a most prodigal sacrifice of constitutional energy, of sound principle, and of public interest, to the popularity of one man."

Bush is presiding over the end of Conservatism in the Republican Party. State of the Union? If you thought Democrat moves for more government were bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. Look out grandchildren, here it comes.

No one is misleading Bush.

Willie your problem is you are in the minority.. the small minority. You have all the political clout of a drunk running for president of the Woman'c Christian Temperance Union.

Willie you have spent a lot of your life bemoaning the fact that no elected politican will ever do what you want. Boo HOO HOO you cry... they Sob sob always betray you.

Someday you may figure out that to get a politician to do what you want, you have to get a majority of the voters in your corner.

Instead of changing public opinion you keep looking for a savior. Every time you think you've found a saviour Willie, he tells you to go to hell.

Obviously the angry emails and the outcry over proposed immigration rules have been screened out by Presidential Advisors. GW probably thinks public opinion is on his side on this and the other issues like medicare reform. But I wonder if GW is allowed to read any newspapers or email addressed to him? We have to get the message of our displeasure and outrage past his advisors smokescreen in order to gain his attention to the real American attitude.

IMHO, is a sad commentary on what a predictable farce the State of the Union Address has become. Pandering politicians and their cheerleaders making a mockery of the Founders' original intent.

The editorial I linked to provides an excellent summary of the marxist influence in trade and illegal immigration policies. It is not surprising at all that the only rebuttal you can offer is a scathing personal attack intended to deflect attention away from its substance. The majority of more thoughtful participants on this forum can see right through such adolescent tactics.

How true! How True!

What bit of political theatre do you anticipate?

Another "preemptive war" or perhaps, a promise to the 'rats of all the socialist government they ever wished for.

As a side comment.....have you ever heard any of these democrate dwarfs or GW talk about the threat from China? Yea, that nation that has the most advanced nukes. Their WMD make the middle east look like WWI & mustard gas. They even have said that they would nuke us but Never a negative word. The same elites that are destroying this nation with ill advised trade policies are the same ones that will sell us out thru illegal immigration. So IMO the speech tonight is pure BS. Try this out also - AP story by Morgan Lee, "Mexican senators plan to lobby for immigration reforms"

Aye. Add me. Don't know how long I'll be here, but add me anyway.

His Medicare prescription drug plan will bankrupt generations of Americans. His plan for illegal amnesty threatens to bankrupt America itself.

Never fear, though. Corporate "America" will come riding over the hill just in time. (believe that?) I believe there's as much money to be made in the destruction of a civilization as in the building of one.

Worth repeating because it is both prophetic and historically accurate.

Someday you may figure out that to get a politician to do what you want, you have to get a majority of the voters in your corner.

A majority of Americans and Republiicans already oppose the Bush Amnesty for Illegal Aliens. They opposed Amnesty before January 7th; they oppose it now; they will oppose Amnesty in November.

Some of them will vote for President Bush anyway -- enough, probably, to insure his reelection.

Others won't, which could be problematic for Republicans further down the ticket.

So, I don't really see why President Bush is proposing something that is not only bad policy, but also potentially bad politics.
