Art like this is sacrosanct simply because it is bought and paid for by the State before it is even produced. It's our tax dollars at work and therefor it speaks for all of us tax-payers. Sort of like the way unions speak for all of their members when they make political contributions.

MK Barakeh, upon hearing of the action taken by Ambassador Maz’el, tried to arouse the indignation of the Israeli art community and called the position taken by the Ambassador, and by extension the Israeli government backing him, “unacceptable”. He stated that it was an attack upon art.
