Old Glory
Author Unknown
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Story Of "Old Glory" This famous name was coined by Captain Stephen Driver, a shipmaster of Salem, Massachusetts in 1831
I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over great institutions of learning.
I stand guard with the greatest military power in the world.
Look up and see me!
I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.
When I am flown with my fellow banners, my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.
I bow to no one.
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped, I am loved, and I am feared!
I have fought in every battle of every war for more than 200 years: Gettysburg, Shilo, Appomattox, San Juan Hill, the trenches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, in the Persian Gulf, and a score of places long forgotten by all but those who were there with me.
I was there!
I led my soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.
I followed them and watched over them. They loved me.
I was on a small hill in Iwo Jima.
I was dirty, battle-worn and tired.
But my soldiers cheered me!
And I was proud!
I have been soiled, burned, torn, and trampled on the streets of countries that I have helped set free.
It does not hurt - for I am invincible.
I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my own country, and when it is by those whom I have served with in battle, it hurts - for I am their own.
But I shall overcome.
For I am strong!
I have slipped the bonds of earth and from my vantagepoint on the moon,
I stand watch over the uncharted new frontiers of space.
I have been a silent witness to all of America's finest hours. But my finest hour comes when I am torn in strips to be used as bandages For healing my wounded comrades on the field of battle; when I fly at half mast to honor my soldiers, my sailors, my airmen, my Marines, and my Coast Guardsmen; and when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving mother, at the graveside of her fallen son or daughter.
I am proud.
My name is "Old Glory" long may I wave, dear God, long may I wave!

I heard Daryl Worley's song,
"Have You Forgotten?" in the car on my way home. It hit me that a lot of people do seem to forget what happened and the part of his song about it being taken off television has a played a major role IMO. You don't have to be reminded every day about 9/11 but it seems we need to remind the Democrats what this War on Terrorism is all about since they seem to have conveniently forgot in all their trashing of President Bush.
Listen to the Democrat candidates and what they are saying. They do not support our War on Terrorism so where would that leave us if they were elected -- very vulnerable to another attack. Why should the terrorists stop their attacks now? With all the rhetoric coming from the Democrats, they figure if they wait until after the election one of the 8 angry democrat candidates will be President, and they have no worries.
Whether you agree with all President Bush's policies or not, you have to admit he is an honorable man who Loves God, Loves America, Loves his Family, and Loves Americans and is not afraid to stand up to the terrorist. We are very lucky to have had this man as President when 9/11 happened.
We are officially into the campaign for the 2004 Presidential election as the primaries are beginning shortly. Please join in making Free Republic the best site on the Internet for facts and news. No one can pick apart biased articles better than Freepers. Let's prove to everyone that we go by facts and we will not let any of the EIGHT and counting wannabe's near the White House -- our Freedom is too precious to entrust to people that want nothing but bad to happen to the United States so they can regain power for their own personal benefit.
It is time we started confronting all the Democrat candidates and ask them HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN? and see what you response you receive. Would love to play the Have You Forgotten CD every Democrat candidate rally because it is evident that the 8 wannabe's have FORGOTTEN! Very seldom do a vanity but the song got to me and wanted everyone on here that posts and lurks to remember once again why we have our men and women in our military all over the world fighting terrorism.

I think they could care less! I have seen libs making fun of that very song on other sites when I lurk around. Posters to sites like DU, if they don't actually blame 9/11 on GW, seem to think that once they get a dim in office these attacks will never happen again. They are convinced that we can just be nice to these savages and everything will be fine. Mainly they don't seem to think about September 11th at all, any effort to remind them and they just scream that whoever is doing the reminding is just trying to make a buck off the tragedy or use it for political gain.

Great song. And I also nominate, "I Raq and Roll" by Clint Black --
"I RAQ AND ROLL"
Words and Music by Clint Black and Hayden Nicholas
YOU CAN WAVE YOUR SIGNS IN PROTEST
AGAINST AMERICA TAKING STANDS
THE STANDS AMERICA'S TAKEN
ARE THE REASON THAT YOU CAN
IF EVERYONE WOULD GO FOR PEACE
THERE'D BE NO NEED FOR WAR
BUT WE CAN'T IGNORE THE DEVIL
HE'LL KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE
SOME SEE THIS IN BLACK AND WHITE
OTHERS ONLY GRAY
WE'RE NOT BEGGING FOR A FIGHT
NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY
WE HAVE THE RESOLUTION
THAT SHOULD PUT'EM ALL TO SHAME
BUT IT'S A DIFFERENT KIND OF DEADLINE
WHEN I'M CALLED IN THE GAME
(CHORUS)
I RAQ, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M BACK AND I'M A HIGH TECH GI JOE
I PRAY FOR PEACE, PREPARE FOR WAR
AND I NEVER WILL FORGET
THERE'S NO PRICE TOO HIGH FOR FREEDOM
SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU TREAD
THIS TERROR ISN'T MAN TO MAN
THEY CAN BE NO MORE THAN COWARDS
IF THEY WON'T SHOW US THEIR WEAPONS
WE MIGHT HAVE TO SHOW THEM OURS
IT MIGHT BE A SMART BOMB
THEY FIND STUPID PEOPLE TOO
AND IF YOU STAND WITH THE LIKES OF SADDAM
ONE JUST MIGHT FIND YOU
(CHORUS II)
I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M BACK AND I'M A HIGH TECH GI JOE
I'VE GOT INFRARED, I'VE GOT GPS AND I'VE GOT THAT GOOD OLD FASHIONED LEAD
THERE'S NO PRICE TOO HIGH FOR FREEDOM
SO BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU TREAD
(BRIDGE)
NOW YOU CAN COME ALONG
OR YOU CAN STAY BEHIND
OR YOU CAN GET OUT OF THE WAY
BUT OUR TROOPS TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE
FOR THE GOOD OLD U.S.A.
I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
IN THE USA
I ROCK, I RACK'EM UP AND I ROLL
I'M TALKIN' ABOUT THE USA

I'm Republican, but I make fun of the song. No one says we shouldn't worry about Bin Laden. Not since 9-11 anyway. What they say is we shouldn't have gone to war with Iraq. The song, like the Administration, blurs the line between the two, making it seem like somehow if you weren't gung for the war in Iraq, that you were soft on Bin Laden, which of course is nonsense. And for the record, I supported the war in Iraq. And I am all for getting Bin Laden. But this song is stupid.

Re: Clint Black. I forgot about that song! I actually prefer the more upbeat songs like that one and Toby Keith's songs. I'll have to check out that Clint Black CD.

I prefer Michael W. Smith's "There She Stands" -- If you can keep a dry eye listening to that one, you really need to move. :)

God bless all of our young men and women serving our country now in this conflict. We are a nation of grateful people who will never forget the sacrifices you are making for us and in memory of those who died on Sept 11th in an ACT OF WAR against our homeland.

"50,000 Names" by George Jones literally makes me cry every time.
There are teddy bears & high school rings
& old photographs that mamas bring
That daddies with their young boys, playing ball.
There's combat boots that he used to wear,
When he was sent over there.
There's 50,000 names carved in the wall
There's cigarettes, & theres cans of beer
& notes that say I miss you dear
& children who don't say anything at all.
There's purple hearts and packs of gum
fatherless daughters and fatherless sons
& there's 50,000 names carved in the wall
They come from all across this land
In pickup trucks and mini vans
Searching for a boy from long ago
They scan the wall and find his name
The teardrops fall like pouring rain
& silently they leave a gift and go
There's stars of David & rosary beads
& crucifixion figurines
& flowers of all colors large and small
There's a Boy Scout badge and a merit pin
Little American flags waving in the wind
& there's 50,000 names carved in the wall.
